@emma:rory.gayEmma [it/its]i dont mind it being the default - i tend to use that detail a lot myself18:15:56
@saiko:knifepoint.netKatalin 🔪 I want to just say "this repo needs nixpkgs (and whatever other dependencies), supply it yourself if you import this repo somewhere" 18:17:09
@saiko:knifepoint.netKatalin 🔪 and only when building standalone, should it supply its own locked dependencies 18:17:18
@saiko:knifepoint.netKatalin 🔪 essentially I want something like what meson does for wrap-files, where only the wrap files in the top-level project are considered 18:18:19

also re the announcement, does that note about flakes in vNext mean the UX/commands will be changing, or will it be invisible to users?
No change

@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusExcept bug fixes18:21:16
@mzerodev:matrix.orgZoe Z

On a clean checkout of 2.94.0 😦

 57/144 lix:installcheck / functional-repl                                 FAIL             1.38s   exit status 1

@commentator2.0:elia.gardenRutile (Commentator2.0) feel free to pingYeah, those are quite flakey22:14:40
@commentator2.0:elia.gardenRutile (Commentator2.0) feel free to pingGive me a couple of <del>weeks</del> months and maybe ill get those migrated to f2 as well22:15:42
@mzerodev:matrix.orgZoe ZIt's failing because it's getting a different error message before it's hitting a filesystem boundary when searching for the flake. Is there a cleaner way to fix it than just checking for both messages?22:57:28
@jlamur:matrix.orgJules LamurHi, is the Lix infra repo https://git.lix.systems/lix-project/web-services still available somewhere (or is it private)? It's mentionned on the wiki here https://wiki.lix.systems/books/lix-infrastructure-guide/page/machine-and-service-overview but it's a 404 as a guest.23:02:02

@k900:0upti.meK900 The Lix infra repo is private, what are you looking for? 23:17:37
@jlamur:matrix.orgJules LamurI was just curious :) I expected it to be public since it was mentionned there but it makes sense that it's private.23:19:16
@k900:0upti.meK900 Stuff is slowly moving over to afnix infra which is public 23:21:22

@rv32ima:envs.netEllie (The Fake One)oh wow lol does lix really not have that many build servers23:50:14

If you have extras you can donate them to afnix! 😅

Ok now that's interresting :) That's the first time I hear about afnix. Digging its public matrix channels does not immediatly clarify (to me at least) what the goal of the association is or what the relationship exactly is between afnix and lix. Do you have any resources about it? Is lix independant from afnix?

@jlamur:matrix.orgJules LamurRaaah, I swear I browsed the news before asking but the title of this one didn't click when I read it. Thanks :) 23:58:38
@rv32ima:envs.netEllie (The Fake One) i do in fact have extra, i have two 2nd gen xeon scalable bare-metal servers that need a home 23:59:52

@rv32ima:envs.netEllie (The Fake One)they're located in one of the many datacenters scattered across seattle. probably tukwila00:00:22
@rv32ima:envs.netEllie (The Fake One)i should prob pester my work about financially supporting lix too >_> maybe when [MATERIAL NON-PUBLIC INFORMATION] happens00:01:12
@unhooked-spirits:matrix.orgUnhooked Spirits I'm working on moving $WORK over to Nixlang via Lix myself. If we survive the next year, I've been promised we'll start sponsoring OSS that we use. 00:29:48
@toxicfrog:ancilla.caToxicFrogNeat!00:44:32
@toxicfrog:ancilla.caToxicFrogI sometimes find myself thinking that I would like a job doing nix sysadmin stuff, and then I have to debug an inscrutable stack trace and start questioning that conclusion~00:45:33
@edef1c:matrix.orgedef joined the room.01:32:43
@rv32ima:envs.netEllie (The Fake One) i've never actually had to debug an inscrutable stack trace for what it's worth, most errors when it comes to nix are trivial 01:41:55
@rv32ima:envs.netEllie (The Fake One)i also work with zig code in production so maybe take what i'm saying with a giant grain of salt when i say that "nix is not the most convoluted and hard-to-use software"01:42:37
