Some regressions introduced with 2.4 still have not been fixed, and this issue may very well be one of them
i just tested it on nix 2.3.18 because this is used in the nix-shell of npins and there i have the issue as well.

@ma27:nicht-so.sexyma27 would you mind checking if the error persists on lix master? (you only need to update the CLI, not the daemon).
I fixed a few 2.3 compat issues related to fetchGit/fetchTree and I'd be curious if this already fixed your issue.

@crop_tech:matrix.orgcropThe repl reproducer above should show the problem15:12:35

this nix-repl> builtins.fetchGit { url = "https://git.lix.systems/lix-project/lix.git"; rev = "ad9d06f7838a25beec425ff406fe68721fef73be"; }
needs that allRefs = true is added ... but i think this is not compatible to nix 2.3 which is the nix version used in the shell of npins ...
i wonder whats the reason for using such a old version of nix.

@jakehamilton:auxolotl.orgjakehamiltonIs there someone I can DM about the bagel shaped thing that isn't a bagel? (Wanted to share something, but not sure if y'all are wanting stuff public)20:40:08
@weethet:catgirl.cloudWeetHetI don't know if this is an appropriate place to ask, but is the new Determinate Nix closed source and if yes, how is it not breaking the LGPL license of cppnix?20:41:38
@k900:0upti.meK900It's not closed source 20:42:36
@k900:0upti.meK900 The determinate-nixd binary is 20:42:46
@k900:0upti.meK900But it's not linking directly to cppnix so it's fine, technically 20:42:57
@k900:0upti.meK900Whether it's fine ethically, well, I'll refrain from making public statements on that20:43:27

One might enjoy greatly the fact that I'm not any public figure and have spoken at length my opinions on that :)

It's not closed source

Reading the docs:

At the moment, the Nix in Determinate Nix matches the upstream version. In the future, however, Determinate Nix will include patches that have not yet been released by the upstream project.

It will be interesting to see how they implement that. Also, just because of DetSys' sheer power in the nix community, these features will be pushed to be merged a lot more, as it's financially more efficient than having to resolve merge conflicts all the time

20:48:22
@k900:0upti.meK900I can only wish them best of luck with that20:49:13
@k900:0upti.meK900Given the amount of fun and exciting issues Nix upgrades have already been causing in nixpkgs 20:49:31
@k900:0upti.meK900There's no way this could possibly go even more wrong 20:49:43

@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (tragedy arc)Yeah, whatever they are going to try, with even less manpower than they have now, with even less competence than they have now, good luck to them20:50:32
@srtcd424:auxolotl.orgtc424 (Steve D)Redacted or Malformed Event20:53:35
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (tragedy arc)Also, I've been working with DetSys installer a lot lately and, uhh, how do I say it20:54:10

@srtcd424:auxolotl.orgtc424 (Steve D)Not good vibes20:54:29
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (tragedy arc)There are issues20:54:30
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (tragedy arc)Many20:54:38
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (tragedy arc)Fundamental ones, too20:54:42
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (tragedy arc)Well, I see it more as an official death penalty to CppNix rather than something that actually changes things, so that's just something that was already in the air since Eelco wasn't permabanned from the community, just not made official20:56:51
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (tragedy arc)Also, bending over backwards to not break GPL by "supervising regular daemon" (whatever that means) sounds like a lot of fun20:58:00
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (tragedy arc)Especially since CppNix isn't exactly known for being well-integrated into, well, anything20:58:22
