@sofiedotcafe:matrix.orgSofie 🏳️‍⚧️ (she/her) *

i dont know what would be the most sensible configuration for this:
3x6tb drives
2x1tb drives

I could try ceph? or would zfs be better for this? lvms?

@k900:0upti.meK900Honestly it depends on what you're trying to do18:30:15
@k900:0upti.meK900But you probably just want nixos-containers18:30:22
@sofiedotcafe:matrix.orgSofie 🏳️‍⚧️ (she/her)yeah, I would like the web interface of proxmox tho18:30:47
@sofiedotcafe:matrix.orgSofie 🏳️‍⚧️ (she/her)but I guess I can just use graphana18:30:57
@sofiedotcafe:matrix.orgSofie 🏳️‍⚧️ (she/her)and prometheus18:31:02
@sofiedotcafe:matrix.orgSofie 🏳️‍⚧️ (she/her)does it plug into graphana/prometheus?18:32:05
@k900:0upti.meK900I mean18:32:40
@k900:0upti.meK900It's just containers18:32:42
@k900:0upti.meK900You can use whatever monitoring tools you want18:32:47
@k900:0upti.meK900Depends on what you're trying to do18:32:53
@sofiedotcafe:matrix.orgSofie 🏳️‍⚧️ (she/her)yeah18:34:09
@jappie:jappie.devjappieunless you're a hyperscaler / need to provision tens of thousands of VMs, you probably don't need / want openstack18:48:56
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (they/them)I think you don't want it even then...18:51:15
@sofiedotcafe:matrix.orgSofie 🏳️‍⚧️ (she/her)you dont know what I am /s19:09:55

and prometheus
Hey thats what I want to do
19:14:57
@blastboomstrice:4d2.orgBlastboom StricePrometheus nodes in each nixos-container (and the main machine) and on one nixos-container will have graphana to collect all of the stats and display them19:16:02

@neobrain:matrix.orgneobrain Is it possible (and/or advisable) to spawn a lix shell with nix installed? I tried nix shell nixpkgs#nix, but nix --version still says it's lix D: 07:06:33
@neobrain:matrix.orgneobrainAh, I guess adding the store path to the front of PATH manually will just work?07:12:37
@k900:0upti.meK900 nix shell nixpkgs#nix should work 07:12:53
@k900:0upti.meK900Though the daemon will stay Lix07:13:01
@k900:0upti.meK900If that's something you care about07:13:06
@neobrain:matrix.orgneobrain Yeah I found the problem is that /nix/var/nix/profiles/default/bin is at the start of PATH, so lix will still be preferred. But patching PATH up manually is fine for me given the esoteric use case 07:16:20
@neobrain:matrix.orgneobrain The daemon speaks basically the same protocol in either case, right? I don't rely on any internals here, just stdout/stderr tool output and --json parts (hence the need to test both lix and nix) 07:17:20

normally nix-shell, nix shell and nix develop all prepend the temporary paths and only them
