| there's plenty of alternatives to S3 that could be interesting for our use case, they were not a viable option until recently due the costs it would take to move our data out of S3. Now that Amazon is waving those charges for people leaving their cloud, I know the foundation has been talking with some S3-like services regarding possible sponsorships. | 19:47:40 | |

| Redacted or Malformed Event | 03:27:00 | |
| (removed a comment about backblaze pricing after realizing I don't really know enough numbers to speculate on various object storage providers) | 03:29:09 | |
| I'm going to meet up for coffee with another potential provider this week. If there's others folks want to look into, happy to help out | 17:52:00 | |
| What do you mean exactly with "provider"? | 18:52:54 | |
| Storage provider | 19:12:24 | |
In reply to @janik0:matrix.org Apologies for the delay -- I wanted to talk to some of the folks at my company (Tactile Metrology) who are more active contributors to Nix and related projects. I understand that tangible/measurable progress on this kind of thing can be difficult to provide. A lot of what would be comforting to me on this front would be to see more active representation of underrepresented groups in foundation decision making – whether at the board level, or at any level that has the ability to make binding decisions about parts of the foundation-represented/controlled ecosystem. | 19:16:39
| Personally, one of the things I found worrying came from an informal survey I asked a few weeks ago. In a couple of places, I asked folks what they felt was missing or mysterious about Nix, in the hopes that I could help create some documentation to fill the gaps. Among the technical responses were a number of underrepresented folks who felt they couldn't actually engage with community resources due to the community feeling unsafe. | 19:23:23 | |

In reply to @colemickens:matrix.orgyou get free egress up to 3x monthly storage | 01:31:51
| and iirc theyre part of the bandwidth alliance, so if you back it with cloudflare its free egress alltogether | 01:32:30 | |
| and then theres their b2 reserve thing that has completely free egress at 19.5k per 250TB per year | 01:33:31 | |
| seems to start at 20TB, not sure what the block size is after that though | 01:34:45 | |
