I would love to be able to feel good about supporting Nix, and would love to be able to convince others to do so (I routinely give conference talks/keynotes/trainings and similar), but I think I'd struggle without some tangible proof things are being addressed first.

without some tangible proof things are being addressed first.

This is a bit hard to act on, can you list a few things you would like to change or a few points that you think need addressing?

I surely don't speak for them, but I'm willing to bet mandatory declarations of all potential conflicts of interest by all foundation members would go a long way towards building trust.

As promised: here are the published by-laws https://github.com/NixOS/foundation?tab=readme-ov-file#the-nixos-foundation-by-laws
Hope this clears some questions and concerns people had :)

Like I'd want to give people guide rails for maintainers how to bring this up with their employer that theyd like them to sponsor Nix and move needles. I think it'd be helpful . I think a lot of people underestimate how much can be done if just 1 person in a company is motivated to push a budget request through
https://wasabi.com/ has lower network egress charges as far as I can recall, and I wonder if they would be interested in sponsoring and hosting? ( I don't know anyone there directly, and maybe it's been discussed already?)
19:14:40
@delroth:delroth.netdelroththere's plenty of alternatives to S3 that could be interesting for our use case, they were not a viable option until recently due the costs it would take to move our data out of S3. Now that Amazon is waving those charges for people leaving their cloud, I know the foundation has been talking with some S3-like services regarding possible sponsorships.19:47:40

@ronef:matrix.orgronefI'm going to meet up for coffee with another potential provider this week. If there's others folks want to look into, happy to help out17:52:00

Apologies for the delay -- I wanted to talk to some of the folks at my company (Tactile Metrology) who are more active contributors to Nix and related projects. I understand that tangible/measurable progress on this kind of thing can be difficult to provide.

A lot of what would be comforting to me on this front would be to see more active representation of underrepresented groups in foundation decision making – whether at the board level, or at any level that has the ability to make binding decisions about parts of the foundation-represented/controlled ecosystem.

@ktemkin:katesiria.org[K]ate TemkinPersonally, one of the things I found worrying came from an informal survey I asked a few weeks ago. In a couple of places, I asked folks what they felt was missing or mysterious about Nix, in the hopes that I could help create some documentation to fill the gaps. Among the technical responses were a number of underrepresented folks who felt they couldn't actually engage with community resources due to the community feeling unsafe.19:23:23

@ronef:matrix.orgronefthis specifically is storage but I'd want to continue building up our relationships across the board on any area00:06:43
