In reply to @danderson:matrix.orgI am interesting in hearing what you will substitute Nix with when it comes to you package managing and/or distro needs? | 01:19:51
| Oh wow element just copies the entire reply | 01:20:23 | |
In reply to @kranzes:matrix.orgFortunately, on the desktop it truncates the reply, but yeah on mobile it copies the entirety of the text. :/ | 01:58:04
| Thanks danderson , for what it's worth I personally am sorry to see anyone leave. Regardless of status, following, audience, contributions, or anything else. This community and the project mean a lot to me, just as I imagine it meant/hopefully still means a lot to you. So for that I am sorry that this is happening and I hear you loud and clear. It's also not taken for granted, the time you put into the response and the openness for follow-up questions. I am curious to learn more and will reach out. | 02:37:24 | |

| Ilan Joselevich (Kranzes): yeah sorry, I was worried about how Matrix would deal with the giant post. Places more suitable for long-form posting were all much more public and "wanting to debate in the marketplace of ideas" than I wanted. I don't know exactly what I'll replace Nix with yet. There's nothing quite like it. I'll be terse to not go off-topic in this channel: Arch or Fedora (regular or Silverblue) for desktop, single-node kubernetes or comparable runtime for servers, docker for shell.nix type stuff. They're all a significant downgrade in some ways, but they will meet my needs in the short term while I figure out what's next. | 03:44:53 | |

| I just want to re-iterate what my post says:
So no, I or Determinate Systems do not in any way claim to own Nix, the community, the infrastructure or the foundation. | 06:18:04
I'm sorry. The sentences I see in that text read the opposite way. | 06:18:11
| (to me) | 06:18:23 | |
| For example a short citation
| 06:20:47 | |
| or
| 06:21:34 | |
| Being the only member of the Nix team who also works for Determinate Systems really does not at all contradict the idea of DetSys seeking to leverage influence over the project… | 06:22:24 | |
| I guess that's my cue to peace out from here as well then, doesn't seem like there's going to be much more to say :) Good luck with the whole thing, I hope you get the outcome you want. | 06:29:51 | |

In reply to @qyriad:katesiria.orgWhat influence do you see us seeking? For instance, we're not NixOS release managers, we're not on the RFC SC, the mod team, etc. | 06:30:49
| although I don't exactly see that claim, I do agree that the blog article does make it seem like there is no avoiding this whole thing: Eelco made it clear the intentions of keeping sponsors as they are, directly in the article | 06:32:59 | |
| No, I accept the sponsorship policy that we agreed to two weeks ago even if it's not my ideal. Exactly because I'm not a BDFL who gets to decide that on his own. | 06:34:48 | |

In reply to @niksnut:matrix.orgI usually do not take part in these discussions and I'm sad to see what's happening these days. I was advocating for the adoption Nix at European Commission until this week, and I will slowly find a way to contradict myself in the upcoming days. I really didn't want to reach that point, but to be honest, your blog post was actually the trigger while I'm pretty sure it has been written full of good intentions and waves. The title of your article explicitly name the "community", and in the last sentences, you invite people to join DetSys discord. I guess it's impossible to make things even more confusing for people already reading the message for the first time. I sincerely hope something will make me change my mind, but I have serious doubts... good luck | 07:31:29
In reply to @niksnut:matrix.orgWhat I don't understand is why you decided to respond to a community inquiry on the determinent systems blog. Doesn't that kind of create the impression that Determinent Systems is your mouthpiece in dealing with the community? | 07:33:43

| I'd really like to see good intentions in all off this, but it's getting harder and harder. | 07:35:07 | |
