Arian | Avoid 'succes at all cost' is my personal interpretation | 16:30:00 |
ronef | This might be me biasing for action here so please hold me in check. My urgency dial is obviously on a 10 here as I feel we are leaning towards more of a make progress over perfection scenario? (again give feedback if misperceived)
Would it be reasonable to split up the areas into explicit work items and have a CTA for a small temp team for each to make progress? | 16:31:18 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | I don't think anyone is expecting perfection, but we have also pretty much run out of runway, so some kind of robust resolution will need to happen fast | 16:32:32 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | merely 'progress' in some undefined quantity is not going to be sufficient, I think | 16:33:13 |

Arian: I share a similar frustration. The Board, Eelco, and community overall are being pulled into multiple directions at once. For the community to remain an anarchy, to have more oversight, to have a unified voice for the community. Having these be simultaneously true is a best difficult, and at worse impossible.
Calling for Eelco and the Board to not get involved, then not involved, then to exhibit more leadership, then to step down. This puts a great deal of pressure on them.
Regarding "growth is an anti-goal for the community". Many people do have this goal and many people have the opposite goal. Either we can co-exist and pursue these goals independently, or we have some structure to clarify this. I would consider it much clearer for the discussion to be in terms of goals. If people want growth to be an anti-goal (eg: "avoid success at all costs" of Haskell), then that should be the thing we talk about.
I definitely read their "growth is an anti-goal for the community" message as more of a current state than an actual goal | 16:34:17 |
ronef | agreed | 16:36:25 |
ronef | again this is my program efficiency brain kicking in so please push back if I'm approaching this wrong | 16:37:07 |
ronef | Are we able to define clearly what we need to do NOW (i.e. phase 1) vs what we can do later (phase 2)? | 16:37:35 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | In reply to @kity:kity.wtf Eelco has repeatedly stated that he does not want to be seen as a BDFL, that he does not hold any real power, that he would be willing to step down from his roles. He has also been asked (by a large portion of the community) to step down. Why has Eelco not stepped down? I would say that this is a concrete actionable point for now, since the expectations are clear, there are no obvious barriers anymore, and it is an issue that affects the ability to resolve many other issues in the long term | 16:38:37 |
ronef | * I would like to at the least split the now to the later. | 16:38:54 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | maybe the concrete actionable point for "now", even | 16:38:54 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | I would personally say that the issues of "moderation", "ability to have governance discussions", and "confidence of teams that they have authority over their responsibility" can then be grouped under "later"/long-term - but I am only speaking for myself there of course | 16:40:20 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | * I would personally say that the issues of "moderation", "ability to have governance discussions", and "confidence of teams that they have authority over their responsibility" (including a broader non-interference policy) can then be grouped under "later"/long-term - but I am only speaking for myself there of course | 16:40:43 |
problems | Eelco's recusal would signal to people that he no longer intends to be an obstacle to progress in the ways previously stated by myself and many other community members. If he truly holds no attachment to authority, there should be no issue with this obvious step. | 16:43:00 |
ronef | Just as an update here - Working on this. It's also a Saturday and appears to be a national holiday for areas in Europe if it seems that there's a slower response time please ping me and I'll try to follow up or provide the latest as well. | 17:39:43 |
