@adham-omran:matrix.org | I'm having issues after installing REAPER, I can not find my plugins although Bitwig finds them perfectly fine, is there an issue with REAPER detecting plugins on Linux? | 18:35:35 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | Nevermind, I had to explicitly state ~/.vst/yabridge , I wonder why it did not pick up sub directories. | 18:41:58 |

rfvizarra | Hi I'm kind of new to NixOS. I'm trying to use NixOS to run a few programs that I use to play piano. One of them is Pianoteq. I've seen there is a Pianoteq package (https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/tree/nixos-24.05/pkgs/applications/audio/pianoteq) but I cannot install it adding it to systemPackages, homemanager or nix-shell. Am I missing something? How can I install Pianoteq's package in Nixos? I'm not sure if this is the right channel to ask, if not please accept my apologies. | 08:24:03 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.org Audio is pretty messy on Linux in general and more so on NixOS Firstly, are you using a Flake? from your wording I think you are using I use Pianoteq from their official package for Linux by dropping the LV2 folder they provide into | 08:41:34 |
rfvizarra | In reply to @adham-omran:matrix.orgYes, I'm using a flake | 08:42:28 |
rfvizarra | but that LV2 options might be a good alternative... | 08:42:56 |
rfvizarra | * but that LV2 option might be a good alternative... | 08:43:05 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.orgI recommend using Musnix via Flake input then, it'll fix a lot of issues relating to finding plugins | 08:43:27 |
rfvizarra | I have it included in my flake :) Not sure If I'm taking advantage of it or not | 08:45:16 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.orgIt is the simplest | 08:45:24 |
rfvizarra | I'll try the LV2 way! | 08:45:46 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.orgEh, it happens, I moved away from Musnix because I had similar issues, I hoped it would work for you but apparently not.. | 08:45:48 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.orgLet me know if you need any further help, I've been down this rabbit hole before lol | 08:46:22 |
rfvizarra | In reply to @adham-omran:matrix.orgThank you so much!. I'm going to try the LV2 with Reaper (I've never used a DAW before) | 08:47:03 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.org No problem So are you new to music production as a whole? | 08:47:34 |
rfvizarra | I have been learning to play Piano for quite a few years, unfortunately I can't spend much time playing so I progress very slowly. I use Pianoteq to get great sounding piano from my digital piano. I also have a setup to stream audio/video though Google Meet for remote piano lessons once a week | 08:49:38 |
rfvizarra | So I don't do any music production at all | 08:49:54 |
rfvizarra | I currently have an archlinux machine with all the software, but sometimes things break and it is a pain to go back to a working setup, that Is why I am interested in switching to NixOS | 08:51:01 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | I see, welcome to NixOS, it's a bit of a pain to do audio production at the moment but your minimal setup and requirements are very possible and will work fine once you load the plugin. REAPER is not free software but you can use it for a trial, for a FOSS daw, you can try Ardour | 08:53:08 |
bandithedoge | try zrythm if you're feeling adventurous, it's very usable for being in beta | 08:55:35 |
rfvizarra | I see I have to do some research :D Reaper doesn't seem to be expensive, I'll see If I can see witch one fits me bset | 08:55:38 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | In reply to @bandithedoge:matrix.orgHow does the Zrythm documentation and tutorial landscape compare to REAPER and Ardour? | 08:56:18 |
@adham-omran:matrix.org | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.orgReaper is not expensive for a DAW, well worth the investment in my opinion | 08:56:47 |
rfvizarra | In reply to @bandithedoge:matrix.orgThanks for the hint... another one to add to the research list | 08:56:52 |
