Rampoina | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.org It works for me too!! thank you!! sure no problem, for some reason the package doesn't appear in search.nixos.org which is weird | 09:45:17 |
rfvizarra | I think I also have to learn nix to be able to understand how to make things work when the obvious path doesn't work | 09:46:02 |
Rampoina | pianoteq is great, I wish we had a FOSS version (even if it was just one piano without many parameters) | 09:47:01 |
rfvizarra | Also, I'm going to explore the DAW way to get advantage of other things like mixing | 09:47:05 |
rfvizarra | It sounds great. In the latest version they included a pack for a Bösendorfer | 09:48:32 |
rfvizarra | I'll probably get it in the next sale | 09:48:44 |
Rampoina | I'm not sure how you would specify the variables to add it as a system package, I'd have to research that | 09:52:12 |
Rampoina | I don't have any pianoteq licenses though so I can't try it :P | 09:52:27 |
Rampoina | maybe just setting them as global environment variables | 09:53:44 |
Rampoina | ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ | 09:53:45 |
rfvizarra | I'll investigate it | 09:54:06 |
Rampoina | there's probably some way to override the package and set the variables there | 09:54:14 |
rfvizarra | In reply to @rampoina:matrix.org I don't have any pianoteq licenses though so I can't try it :P They usually have a sale in August. If you play piano I think it is a good investment. I have the most basic one | 09:55:05 |
rfvizarra | One thing that I don't like is that they limit the number of activation in the same computer | 09:55:39 |
Rampoina | I play the piano but I have a real (upright) one ;) | 09:55:46 |
Rampoina | and I'm also a bit of a purist regarding free software :P | 09:55:58 |
rfvizarra | That one is better for sure!! hahaha | 09:56:01 |
rfvizarra | In reply to @rampoina:matrix.org and I'm also a bit of a purist regarding free software :P So Ardour is you DAW of choice? | 09:57:08 |
Rampoina | I don't use DAWs much but the few times I have, yes. | 09:57:44 |
rfvizarra | In reply to @rampoina:matrix.org I don't use DAWs much but the few times I have, yes. I do prefer free software, but there are some areas where there is not much choice | 10:00:31 |
rfvizarra | I bought Pianoteq because It works great and they support linux on x86 and arm | 10:01:06 |
rfvizarra | If it was Windows only I wouldn't have bought it | 10:01:37 |
adham | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.org I do prefer free software, but there are some areas where there is not much choice

I agree here, the choice of sampled instruments is disappointing...
Spitfire, NI and others have no native Linux port and even Wine struggles immensely and does not run them.
| 10:03:03 |
Rampoina | I just use a piano soundfont | 10:03:03 |
Rampoina | Salamander grand piano for example | 10:03:08 |
rfvizarra | In reply to @rampoina:matrix.org Salamander grand piano for example Is it good? | 10:03:40 |

Unfortunately I can not even run them under a virtual machine, the headroom is too much for real time audio
I am considering a mini-pc to run Windows on and stream with Moonlight

Rampoina | In reply to @rfvizarra:matrix.org Is it good? https://sfzinstruments.github.io/pianos/salamander/ | 10:04:04 |
Rampoina | it's not bad | 10:04:07 |
Rampoina | pianoteq is better but it's OK, good enough | 10:04:37 |
