@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧maybe it refers to "-crt-static" ?14:50:12
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧 RUSTFLAGS = "-C target-feature="; works, so close 14:59:31

Found a pretty interesting "problem" with the old fetchCargoTarball implementation: it doesn't check if the lockfile is outdated or not, so when running cargo vendor it would update the lockfile and vendor those libraries. But it would copy the original lockfile to the vendor dir, so the check that decides if the lockfile in the vendor dir and the lockfile in the package's build environment is the same would still succeed.
Looking at the implementation of fetchCargoTarball, it seems kinda intentional. Not sure why it was done.
In any case, weird behaviour IMO.

One package that had an outdated lockfile was discovered after the fetchCargoVendor migration, since it no longer regenerates the lockfile:
https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/382991

Just wanted to share, since it was interesting

@ahamon:matrix.orgAndy HamonIn noticed recently, if I substitute rustc from rust overlay, rustc is included in the runtime closure of my rust bins21:59:31
@ahamon:matrix.orgAndy Hamonbut if I use nixpkgs rustc, my runtime closure is as lean as expected22:00:04

@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesanother rust release, another waiting an extra 12+ hours for fenix to update to be able to use it18:10:10
@niklaskorz:korz.devNiklas Korzrust-overlay already has it18:26:33
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesoverlays are too big a hammer for this imo19:13:00
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesmaybe the solution is to use rust-overlay and import nixpkgs twice19:13:29
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesor make my own replacement for fenix19:13:48
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyhuh?19:13:50
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyrust-ovelray has almost an identical interface to fenix19:13:55
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyyou can use it without actually overlaying19:14:01
@niklaskorz:korz.devNiklas Korzyou don't have to use rust-overlay as an overlay, yeah19:14:07
@charles:computer.surgeryCharleswhat, how19:14:12
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesmanual, relay instructions19:15:11
* @charles:computer.surgeryCharles checks for docs19:15:16
@niklaskorz:korz.devNiklas Korz it also exposes packages 19:15:57
@niklaskorz:korz.devNiklas Korz * it also exposes packages on its flake 19:16:01
@niklaskorz:korz.devNiklas Korz packages.${system}.default is the latest stable rust, so 1.85.0 now 19:16:21
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesi would like to not use flakes19:17:07
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles the default.nix is just the overlay 19:17:15
