@musicmatze:beyermatthi.asmusicmatzefrom what I see nix evolves in manners of "just increment some number"; not even semver.11:29:06
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid ArnoldWith the option to decrese at time 😃🤕😁11:30:00

@timdeh:matrix.orgnrdxpTo be fair, Nix was quite stable before all major development moved to perpetually unstable 😆17:35:57
@timdeh:matrix.orgnrdxp * To be fair, Nix was quite stable before all major development moved to perpetually unstable 😆 (and still is if you use the stable branch and forego said advancements)17:36:23

@kity:kity.wtfashyeah, i've been saying we should move flakes out of the main nix repo and break off a release :/00:07:51
@kity:kity.wtfashbut that's just my opinion00:08:01
@kity:kity.wtfashit just sucks that there's currently two nix ecosystems, one for stable and one for unstable, and it pisses me off when someone tells me to do a thing that requires unstable00:09:00
@kity:kity.wtfash(or worse, flakes)00:09:05
@timdeh:matrix.orgnrdxpI feel the inverse, stable nix is kinda a PITA sometimes 😆01:33:27
@kity:kity.wtfashyeah well i like my tools to not be entirely composed of unreleased featuresets02:28:37
@kity:kity.wtfashwhat's even the point of stable nix if new releases never happen02:30:04
@timdeh:matrix.orgnrdxp I tried my best to stimulate discussion toward a consensus for a minimal/agreeable flake feature-set which could be pushed into a stable release. It wasn't entirely fruitless. 02:34:01
@timdeh:matrix.orgnrdxp * I tried my best to stimulate discussion toward a consensus for a minimal/agreeable flake feature-set which could be pushed into a stable release. It wasn't entirely fruitless. But there is still much to be desired (and potentially an RFC to draft at some point) 02:34:24

@kity:kity.wtfashi don't care about flakes (and frankly the nonsense has soured me toward them in general) so i have no horse in that race, but i do think it's awful that an unfinished highly-contested feature is blocking a new stable release02:42:00
@kity:kity.wtfashit makes no sense. no other project with an rfc process has this issue, and we shouldn't either02:42:38
@timdeh:matrix.orgnrdxpWell I did say somewhere in that thread that even scrapping them altogether would be preferable to the current situation 😆02:43:03
@hexa:lossy.networkhexawhat is worse is that backports of bugfixes rarely happen without someone being pushy about them02:43:05
@kity:kity.wtfashi think we should scrap them and if people want them so bad they can go through the proper process this time02:44:09
@kity:kity.wtfashit's not important enough to block the entire release pipeline for 2 years02:45:17
@kity:kity.wtfashi don't honestly understand the dynamic here - why has nothing been done about the continued problem?02:57:55
@kity:kity.wtfashis it because it's eelco that's pushing it?02:58:05
@kity:kity.wtfashbecause nobody feels empowered to say "we should get rid of this and it can be reintroduced later, properly"?03:00:09
@blaggacao:matrix.orgDavid Arnoldnobody feels empowered to make decisions.03:00:46
