In reply to @magic_rb:matrix.redalder.org As a preface, I don't mean to invalidate the need for moderators. We all agree that's needed. The way I read your message, it sounds to me like "if any channel doesn't have 24/7 moderation schedule, we should maybe not accept it into the nixos.org matrix space". If my understanding (which I've kind of exaggerated a little to make as clear as I could) is correct(ish), I wonder why this coverage is important? If there is a channel that's more applicable to one (specific) non-English/Spanish/French, chances are that its use and "time of activity" will generally be limited to the timezone(s) used by the country of said language. So, my counter-argument to your point (as I understood it) is that: Are we sufficiently worried about non-policy-conforming activities occurring outside of "times of day" when people generally use a channel, that it's not okay to just remove/deal with it as soon as the timezone(s) this channel is active rolls around? If so, why? Maybe the answer to why is a simple "because it doesn't look good if someone sees it before it's fixed". If it's that (and not something else), yeah I can see the need to demand sufficient moderators so that none of them would "have to get grumpy because they have to wake up in the middle of their night to fix things". | 06:54:31

| The NixOS matrix space is scraped and have frequently been spammed with CSAM. Which I think is the reason why the need somewhat quick moderation is high. | 07:23:18 | |

| Any team or interest group (whether subject or locality or whatever-else) can create a channel and, assuming it's relevant, ask to have it added to the nix/os spaces. We need to add the moderation bot to the room, largely to take care of applying the shared ban lists and sometimes necessary interventions. We may leave the channel "founders" or team leads as local mods in the channel, to be used according to the team's preferences. That's not language specific. There are lots of language channels where the moderation team don't speak that language. | 07:24:38 | |
In reply to @eyjhb:eyjhb.dkSounds both fair and like a very high bar of standard. Has this been written down somewhere? Maybe it should if it hasn't =) | 07:25:12
| that's not language specific, and is what the bot is for most of the time (we wish it could do better) | 07:25:35 | |
In reply to @uep:matrix.orgI feel this just underlines my point of ratifying(?) / writing down this "bar of standard" =) | 07:26:17
| Agreed. But it's not always easy :) - Just trying to highlight, that getting a room added to the NixOS Space, might lead to an increase in spam. | 07:27:31 | |
