@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI don't think there was super careful consideration of alternatives back when we moved from IRC to Matrix13:35:50
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily(and the landscape is very different to back then)13:35:58
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyFreenode melting down kind of forced the issue.13:36:03
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyinertia does the rest; there's no committee regularly evaluating whether moving to something else might make sense13:36:23
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi think IRCs major fault, as k900 pointed out, is the one line of text protocol. otherwise, i'd suspect we could make it work as well as matrix does(n't)13:38:53
@k900:0upti.meK900IRC not having the ability to easily attach images or other files is also definitely a problem 13:40:02
@k900:0upti.meK900And yes yes IRCv3 fixes it 13:40:08
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyyeah I mean I would be fine going back to IRCCloud but I don't expect us to actually choose that.13:41:35
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily(how's Matrix's ability to attach images right now? :p)13:41:52

@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNarymatrix is way more broken then i thought. it looks like dentrite does not respect the delegation :)15:13:39
@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNary* matrix is way more broken then i thought. it looks like dentrite does not respect delegation. I get PUTs on the federation API on my webserver, exclusively from Dendrite instances :D15:24:34
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.org@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgMy recommendation has always been to run synapse, so like, yes dendrite is bromen15:26:11

@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNary * matrix is way more broken then i thought. it looks like dentrite does not respect delegation. I get PUTs on the federation API on my webserver, exclusively from Dendrite instances. They ofc fail - and my homeserver runs in federation timeouts because the federation call from them never arrives. Trying to join #dendrite:matrix.org to talk to someone about it overwhelmed my small home server with backtracking on the re-trys for federation, so i had to leave again :D 15:26:34
@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNarymy synapse collapsed when i tried to join :D15:27:10
@k900:0upti.meK900Dendrite is not really supposed to be ready yet15:27:12
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.org@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgAnd while i respect the people working on conduit, conduit forks quite often, so if youre feeling adventurous sure, but otherwise synapse15:27:22
@k900:0upti.meK900But a lot of people jumped on it anyway15:27:28

my synapse collapsed when i tried to join :D
Is your synapse using workers?
15:27:28
@k900:0upti.meK900Because of how slow Synapse is15:27:33
@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNaryand yet, since joining this space i have three federation requests a minute from dendrite (different versions even, so some are not regularly updated even:D)15:28:21
@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNary* and yet, since joining this space i have three federation requests a minute from dendrite homeservers (different versions even, so some are not regularly updated even:D)15:28:36
@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNary* and yet, since joining this space i have three failing federation requests a minute from dendrite homeservers (different versions even, so some are not regularly updated even:D)15:28:46
@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNaryno. it's on a tiny VPS15:29:04

no. it's on a tiny VPS
Then its configured wrong
15:29:25
@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNaryi reckon the overhead of managing the works would probably not outweigh the improvements from using workers15:29:41
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.org@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.org Synapse requires workers for reasonable performance, is it using at least postgres 15:29:45
@tobi:stapelueberfluss.deTobiNary* i reckon the overhead of managing the workers would probably not outweigh the improvements from using workers15:29:48
