Winter | In reply to @wxnzemof:matrix.org and/or a note on https://wiki.nixos.org/wiki/Matrix :) feel free to add it yourself! | 07:11:27 |
Winter | wiki is user editable :) | 07:11:34 |
wxnzemof | Was hoping that someone with a better understanding of the situation could do that :) | 07:12:13 |
Winter | fair :) | 07:13:22 |
uep | i have been (mildly) reluctant to do something like that. In part not to draw attention of the spammers, either to reward them as getting attention, or to give them hints about bypassing the meager controls we have in matrix. | 07:21:23 |
uep | The longer it goes on, the more users are impacted and the less I think that's worthwhile though | 07:21:48 |
KFears (they/them) | It might be time to migrate to Zulip tbqh | 07:22:42 |
KFears (they/them) | Eternally suffering from CSAM spam with barely any protections against it is very unfun | 07:24:30 |
@emma:rory.gay | In reply to @kfears:matrix.org It might be time to migrate to Zulip tbqh I sure wont be following | 07:45:47 |
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.org | Yeah same | 07:54:38 |

@jh-devv:matrix.org | In reply to @emma:rory.gay I sure wont be following May I ask, why? | 08:31:13 |
@jh-devv:matrix.org | But yeah, MADS is nice for now | 08:31:46 |
@emma:rory.gay | i use matrix so i dont have to deal with other platforms, moving to zulip would be quite the opposite of that | 08:32:08 |
@jh-devv:matrix.org | In reply to @palasso:matrix.org Many thanks to the mod team working on this issue the past few weeks and the NixOS community at large for this awesome community and distro ❤️ Yeah. Especially with all the mental health drain from this | 08:32:37 |
uep | NGL, a 12-day weekend with mostly no useable cellular data throughput was.. needed | 08:36:39 |

@joepie91:pixie.town | tangential, but I get kind of annoyed by comments along the lines of "let's migrate to <other platform>", as if that is a trivial thing to do with minimal consequences (which it isn't, and the constant floating of the idea does not help the sense of community stability either). doubly so when the current platform is one that we do actually have some degree of control over, like is the case with Matrix.
like, we can keep platform-hopping forever, tearing apart what's left of the community at every step, hoping that we'll eventually land on some platform from some company that somehow is prepared to do anything we need for us forever on a budget of "none"... or, more realistically, we could acknowledge that our community is ultimately ours to run and support, and that "everybody putting in their part to make it work" is the sustainable way forward, rather than expecting others to do it for us.

ShamrockLee (Yueh-Shun Li) | The Element Android app turns out to be unable to reject room invitation. | 10:35:38 |
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.org | it for sure is, more likely a bug with your HS? | 10:36:05 |

i will also add, thats exactly what these spammers want, its like terrorism, if you give up and yield to their demands they win. Leaving matrix is giving in to their demands and such we must not do that, because only then do they win | 10:37:04 |
SigmaSquadron | "NixOS does not negotiate with terrorists" was not in my bingo card for today | 10:38:17 |
@emma:rory.gay | i will say one thing:
IF YOU RUN YOUR OWN MATRIX SERVER: https://the-draupnir-project.github.io/draupnir-documentation/protections/block-invitations-on-server-protection
IF YOU DO NOT RUN YOUR OWN MATRIX SERVER: https://cgit.rory.gay/matrix/tools/MatrixAntiDmSpam.git/
FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO BE EXTRA SURE: why not both? | 10:39:51 |
