K900 | Yeah, the problem is getting clients to agree on how to handle threads | 18:35:23 |
K900 | Which they notably already don't | 18:35:29 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | right | 18:35:46 |
raitobezarius | Connected issue to the discussion: https://github.com/zulip/zulip/issues/28800 | 18:36:09 |
K900 | Honestly I really want Zulip style threads on Matrix | 18:36:50 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | (very quick grump: the way Matrix is designed has made it heavily reliant on the core spec process to resolve disagreements like this, but their design choices for the governance means that this spec process does not actually have the capacity to handle those cases for which it has been made a critical dependency) | 18:37:08 |
K900 | But I'll take Zulip if we can't get that | 18:37:03 |
raitobezarius | (which absolutely doesn't address what you are talking about which is client does whatever they want and even if everything was fixed on bridging side, etc. — people using their preferred client could have an absolutely disastrous experience) | 18:37:15 |
@joepie91:pixie.town | * (very quick grump: the way Matrix is designed has made it heavily reliant on the core spec process to resolve disagreements like this, but their design choices for the governance means that this spec process does not actually have the capacity to handle those cases for which it has been made a critical dependency. it wouldn't be such an issue if the governance design were better) | 18:37:25 |
raitobezarius | I think a certain ship has sailed when it comes to Matrix and fighting to have Zulip seems to be hard those days | 18:41:14 |
raitobezarius | Maybe before anything, Zulip has to be integrated into things like weechat, etc. so that it is easy to add it as a workspace, idk | 18:41:42 |

| aciceri joined the room. | 16:14:52 |
aciceri | Hey, I'm co-organizing a meetup in my city (that I hope it could be a recurring event) and we were considering to create a matrix room instead of re-using the national one, would it make sense if it was hosted on nixos.org? In that case would it be possible? Who should I ask? | 16:18:13 |
Alyssa Ross | That does make sense, and you should ask in #matrix-suggestions:nixos.org. | 16:20:25 |
aciceri | Ok let me ask there, thanks | 16:22:07 |
ckie (they/them) | zrsk: discuss here | 16:32:26 |
ckie (they/them) | i should've also replied here but forgot about that briefly :P | 16:32:38 |
ckie (they/them) | but yes | 16:32:42 |
ckie (they/them) | then someone from the mod team comes around and puppets @admin for a bit | 16:33:17 |
aciceri | In reply to @ckie:ckie.dev then someone from the mod team comes around and puppets @admin for a bit Ok, we will create the room on matrix.org using the other organizer's account (I cannot create rooms with the homeserver I'm using now, it gives out an error) and then we'll invite the @admin and write something here to notify that we did it. | 16:38:25 |
aciceri | Thanks 😀 | 16:38:30 |
ckie (they/them) | (: | 16:39:01 |
ckie (they/them) | (that notification message does belong in #matrix-suggestions:nixos.org ) | 16:39:24 |
aciceri | In reply to @ckie:ckie.dev (that notification message does belong in #matrix-suggestions:nixos.org ) lol 😄 | 16:42:28 |
aciceri | Anyway we wanted to bridge it with telegram in order to approach curious people more easily. Any suggestion? I saw that t2bot is a thing, I would avoid hosting the bridge ourselves if possible | 16:44:38 |
raitobezarius | i think the biggest problem of bridges is propagation of moderation decisions | 16:45:16 |
aciceri | In reply to @raitobezarius:matrix.org i think the biggest problem of bridges is propagation of moderation decisions Yeah I can understand that, we will need to be present in both matrix and telegram as admin. (Un)fortunately I don't forecast a great usage of this room, it's just for not generating noise on the national room. | 16:51:25 |
Alyssa Ross | The moderation team might want to be able to moderate rooms in the space. | 17:14:48 |
Alyssa Ross | Definitely worth asking them. | 17:14:57 |
aciceri | In reply to @qyliss:fairydust.space The moderation team might want to be able to moderate rooms in the space. I already added the t2bot bridge (wanted to see how it worked) to the room. Giving them moderation permissions to the matrix group would be ok or they would need moderation permissions also on telegram? I can do that but they would need to give me their telegram usernames. | 17:53:20 |
