| Coming from #matrix-suggestions:nixos.org Re: Inclusion of rooms in languages, the moderation team don't have speakers for Were there some decisions made? If not, a possible proposal might be: - have at least 2 native speakers in that room, that can escalate to mod-team and can act as a liaison to mod-team. | 21:23:35 | |

| https://matrix.to/#/#oslo:nixos.org is already an example of this, I'd posit =) | 21:25:45 | |
| While im all in for multilingual nix and international engagement and all that, i will say that i wonder how much time coverage do 2 users from norway have. The nice thing about having 10 mods all in different time zones is that you cover all different time zones. If you only have 2 people acting as liaison to the mod-team, what happens if those two people are asleep? | 21:30:35 | |

Or waive them off and direct them to nix.ug and official wiki. | 21:31:12
In reply to @magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgwell, you would have to close the room? | 21:52:52
| which sounds kinda dumb and which defeats the whole purpose tbh | 21:53:05 | |
In reply to @jh-devv:matrix.orgyeah i dont know whats the solution, im just pointing it out as i felt it necessary to point out | 21:56:26
| 2 users could span each a 12h slot to have 24/7 availability, there are people speaking Norwegian in other timezones. (just as an example, but more are better for redundancy) | 22:30:21 | |
| Just remove the alias and remove it from the space, so discoverability is not optimal. Room can still exist without official blessings. | 22:31:34 | |
In reply to @0x4a6f:matrix.orgRight, i forgot to account for the fact that norwegian speaking people can exist out of norway. People dont disintegrate just because they step out of their country (id be dead right now) | 23:27:16

In reply to @magic_rb:matrix.redalder.org As a preface, I don't mean to invalidate the need for moderators. We all agree that's needed. The way I read your message, it sounds to me like "if any channel doesn't have 24/7 moderation schedule, we should maybe not accept it into the nixos.org matrix space". If my understanding (which I've kind of exaggerated a little to make as clear as I could) is correct(ish), I wonder why this coverage is important? If there is a channel that's more applicable to one (specific) non-English/Spanish/French, chances are that its use and "time of activity" will generally be limited to the timezone(s) used by the country of said language. So, my counter-argument to your point (as I understood it) is that: Are we sufficiently worried about non-policy-conforming activities occurring outside of "times of day" when people generally use a channel, that it's not okay to just remove/deal with it as soon as the timezone(s) this channel is active rolls around? If so, why? Maybe the answer to why is a simple "because it doesn't look good if someone sees it before it's fixed". If it's that (and not something else), yeah I can see the need to demand sufficient moderators so that none of them would "have to get grumpy because they have to wake up in the middle of their night to fix things". | 06:54:31
In reply to @x10an14:matrix.org*to one specific language (a non lingua franca one at that) | 06:55:25

| The NixOS matrix space is scraped and have frequently been spammed with CSAM. Which I think is the reason why the need somewhat quick moderation is high. | 07:23:18 | |

| Any team or interest group (whether subject or locality or whatever-else) can create a channel and, assuming it's relevant, ask to have it added to the nix/os spaces. We need to add the moderation bot to the room, largely to take care of applying the shared ban lists and sometimes necessary interventions. We may leave the channel "founders" or team leads as local mods in the channel, to be used according to the team's preferences. That's not language specific. There are lots of language channels where the moderation team don't speak that language. | 07:24:38 | |
In reply to @eyjhb:eyjhb.dkSounds both fair and like a very high bar of standard. Has this been written down somewhere? Maybe it should if it hasn't =) | 07:25:12
| that's not language specific, and is what the bot is for most of the time (we wish it could do better) | 07:25:35 | |
In reply to @uep:matrix.orgI feel this just underlines my point of ratifying(?) / writing down this "bar of standard" =) | 07:26:17
| Agreed. But it's not always easy :) - Just trying to highlight, that getting a room added to the NixOS Space, might lead to an increase in spam. | 07:27:31 | |

| it's covered. Thanks, but really, it's time to move on to another topic | 07:28:28 | |
In reply to @uep:matrix.orgThank you! I could not find any documentation on this when I looked for it, I'll have a read through and avoid re-iterating covered points =) | 07:29:59
| it's well hidden! mostly because it was originally more an internal process for the steps to take | 07:31:15 | |
In reply to @uep:matrix.org Having skimmed through, what is it you think is a well covered point? I'm asking with https://matrix.to/#/!GsmxjHfeAYLsTEQmjS:nixos.org/$HIiVVBJwXGv2Z2fF8cHs0gs4ux5E16pGSXZztnOpmtk?via=nixos.org&via=matrix.org&via=nixos.dev in mind | 07:32:21
