leona | hi, i just asked Tristan to transfer mod rights in #nixos-release-management:nixos.org , but he doesn't have the rights to do so. I just wanted to change room icon + description, so technically I don't need the permissions. It's also currently part of the release manager checklist, so we should update that too(?). Can you give me an opinion on how you would like this to happen in the future? | 19:06:04 |
emily | (I remember that room having an icon before. did it get removed or has there been a split-brain?) | 19:59:21 |
leona | i think it is that matrix.org resend old events | 19:59:50 |
leona | it's not really broken broken tmk | 20:00:05 |
Tristan Ross | In reply to @emilazy:matrix.org (I remember that room having an icon before. did it get removed or has there been a split-brain?) I see the icon | 20:39:20 |
Sandro | no icon for me | 21:39:20 |
hexa | always split brain | 21:51:05 |
Sandro | How is that happening so often for NixOS rooms? | 21:52:25 |
Tristan Ross | In reply to @sandro:supersandro.de How is that happening so often for NixOS rooms? Because Matrix sucks lol | 21:55:31 |
emily | the state of the rooms was also subject to manual database editing | 21:56:30 |
emily | which doesn't help Matrix's already flaky state resolution | 21:56:42 |

woobilicious | Does matrix not have a way to assign roles or permissions like discord does? It seems kinda bad to only have the main channel locked out, and not the others, ideally you'd want a single channel users can speak in and then some way to assign roles to join others. Some discord servers I've been in just uses emoji reactions to assign channel invites. | 02:42:29 |

K900 | Not space wide, no | 04:41:48 |
woobilicious | not sure if channels have them, but I guess a bot could manage them if they exist with enough power. | 04:43:00 |
loudgolem | does this have some solution?
K900? maybe
| 05:16:41 |
K900 | What is "this", exactly? | 05:17:39 |
loudgolem | I can't join that channel | 05:17:52 |
loudgolem | neither can those two users above | 05:18:03 |
loudgolem | MatrixError: [403] You are not invited to this room. (https://matrix-client.matrix.org/_matrix/client/v3/join/%23users%3Anixos.org) | 05:18:18 |
K900 | The room is currently configured to require an invite from an existing user to join, or a "knock" (i.e. a join request) | 05:19:55 |
K900 | I have sent you an invite | 05:20:23 |
loudgolem | thanks, previously it wasn't the case. is this to prevent spam or something? | 05:20:48 |
