K900 | You know I'm starting to wonder | 21:08:02 |
K900 | How long is it going to take for yuzu upstream to notice we're shipping their Patreon only Early Access version | 21:08:17 |
K900 | And ask us to not do that | 21:08:29 |
@r522:matrix.org | In reply to @k900:0upti.me How long is it going to take for yuzu upstream to notice we're shipping their Patreon only Early Access version
yuzu is a GPLv3 program, which allows fully free redistribution of its source code.
right :)

@sigmasquadron:matrix.org | it was stupid before, and it continues to be stupid to paywall FLOSS builds. What’s even the point of yuzu’s patreon if anyone can republish their code? | 00:47:46 |

K900 | You know | 06:41:04 |
K900 | Also, the yuzu people fixed the frame pacing issue I reported in just a few hours | 07:20:26 |
K900 | That's cool | 07:20:27 |
bytebandit | It sounds like its all in the repo but you'd get binaries from Patreon. I really don't mind any part of that. I think you DO need some barrier. If it's super easy to do the wrong thing, people will do it in any context. Adding a little barrier gives enough time for people to think their actions through a bit more.
Personally, it's a no-brainer for me. | 08:51:05 |
bytebandit | It supports the devs AND I don't have to compile it myself, | 08:51:41 |
@atemu12:matrix.org | SigmaSquadron: To support development | 09:31:43 |
@atemu12:matrix.org | I think it's actually a really nice model | 09:32:07 |
@atemu12:matrix.org | People pay for the build, not the code | 09:32:50 |
@atemu12:matrix.org | On platforms without sane package management, that's worth something | 09:33:32 |
@atemu12:matrix.org | And the stable version is free for everyone | 09:34:11 |
@atemu12:matrix.org | In reply to @k900:0upti.me And more about where it's a nice thing to do We could add a config flag fo "I pay for EA" and assert it in the EA package | 09:46:50 |
@atemu12:matrix.org | You could set the flag without paying ofc. but that'd be just as unethical as piracy IMV. | 09:48:13 |
