@k900:0upti.meK900So it's failing to probe something, but it's also successfully probing both GPUs08:38:12
@vengmark2:matrix.orgl0b0I tried rebooting again, but I'm not having any more luck.08:42:03
@vengmark2:matrix.orgl0b0 This is my base config, in case there's anything interesting. The machine-specific settings are all in a separate repo. 08:44:22
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.org Well, I decided to hop into windows to see how bg3 performs by comparison. It needs a 35G update, and says I don't have the space for it. And "steam -> settings -> storage" says 149G is used by games, 120G by "updates", 103G by "other", and 92G free. 08:52:14
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgAnd of course once I say that, now it's happy to try to do the update08:52:44
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.org l0b0: FWIW, GN's testing for BG3 only gets a bit over 50fps with the 7700XT at 4K: https://youtu.be/AAjQXdwkgEE?t=464&si=iXrn_FEdIf6_F1-2 08:57:10
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgAnd of course they're on windows08:57:18
@vengmark2:matrix.orgl0b0It seems the problem is it's not using the GPU at all, which makes 40 FPS pretty damn good. I assume fixing the GPU initialisation will result in 100+ FPS at this point.09:00:14
@k900:0upti.meK900It won't09:00:42
@k900:0upti.meK900If you're getting 40FPS at 4K on BG3, it's definitely rendering in hardware09:01:03
@k900:0upti.meK900And your GPU just can't push that many pixels09:01:09
@k900:0upti.meK900 The benchmarks @ElvishJerricco linked show the same GPU getting 50 FPS on Windows 09:01:24
@k900:0upti.meK900So it's honestly pretty close09:01:33
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgYea BG3 on anything other than the big GPU would just die at 4K09:02:36
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgI get like 30fps on the steam deck's iGPU and that's at like 720p or whatever its native resolution is09:03:21
@vengmark2:matrix.orgl0b0Huh. I thought modern GPUs were much more powerful than that.09:05:07
@vengmark2:matrix.orgl0b0In any case, reducing the graphics settings in BG3 doesn't seem to have much of any effect on the FPS.09:05:28
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgThe better GPUs get, the more demanding games become. BG3 is no exception09:05:44

What's your CPU?
09:06:49
@vengmark2:matrix.orgl0b0 On a related note, any idea why the audio part of the HDMI signal might drop out randomly. 09:06:53
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.orgIs GPU usage at 100%?09:06:55

Is GPU usage at 100%?
Do you know any good tools to check this?
09:07:13
@k900:0upti.meK900nvtop09:07:32
@k900:0upti.meK900(misleadingly named as it can now do more than Nvidia)09:08:09
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgYea, looks like windows can do 10-15 fps better than Linux for me09:09:05
@vengmark2:matrix.orgl0b0Let's give it a try…09:09:20
@elvishjerricco:matrix.org@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgSo 40fps is probably about right for 7700 XT when windows does 5009:09:32
@vengmark2:matrix.orgl0b0 OK, so it does just under 40 FPS at both 4K and 1920x1080 resolutions. 09:12:04
@k900:0upti.meK900You could be CPU limited09:12:16
