@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderhttps://www.reddit.com/r/NixOS/comments/18disq3/i_have_some_questions_on_setting_up_randomly/09:00:55
@k900:0upti.meK900That's called a screensaver09:01:29
@k900:0upti.meK900We had those back in CRT days09:01:34
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderOh cool, is a screen saver easy to setup in NixOS? The setup that I'm trying to do is very specific.09:03:44
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderAlso I'm on gnome and gdm.09:04:51
@k900:0upti.meK900It should just be in the GNOME settings?09:05:09
@k900:0upti.meK900I'm assuming09:05:10
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderhttps://search.nixos.org/options?channel=23.05&from=0&size=50&sort=relevance&type=packages&query=wallpaper09:05:28
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderI'll do some more research on the gnome settings.09:05:49
@k900:0upti.meK900But also like09:07:13
@k900:0upti.meK900Most OLED displays have built-in burn-in compensation these days09:07:26
@k900:0upti.meK900So it's probably a non-issue in the first place09:07:34
@k900:0upti.meK900(also good luck getting good font rendering on that, especially on Windows)09:07:47
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderYeah, like I said in that Reddit post Samsung comes with burn in protection out of the box and there's a couple other settings to further prevent burn in, but these QD OLEDs are designed for media consumption and gaming not for workloads with static elements. So I want to setup a good screen saver of randomly shuffling wallpapers just to be sure I don't get burn in. I think on Windows there's Mac like font that looks really nice but I haven't checked if it's supported as well.09:12:19
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderhttps://www.omglinux.com/dynamic-wallpapers-for-gnome-desktop/09:12:25
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderThis looks good, I just to use Nix to wrap around these Linux tooling commands on the GitHub page.09:13:53
@k900:0upti.meK900The "Mac like font" thing is just FreeType but that's really not the problem09:13:57
@k900:0upti.meK900The problem is that Windows doesn't understand weird subpixel layouts09:14:05
@k900:0upti.meK900Also that link seems to be for your desktop wallpaper09:14:22
@k900:0upti.meK900Not a screensaver09:14:25
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderOh that sucks.09:14:44
@k900:0upti.meK900But if you want a screensaver and you want to configure it with Nix, there's probably some dconf knob you can set with HM?09:14:44
@k900:0upti.meK900I don't use GNOME so I don't know09:14:57
@k900:0upti.meK900But most of their settings are in dconf09:15:02
@k900:0upti.meK900So I assume these would be too09:15:05
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderUh don't know I'll look into it.09:15:14
@xx_doomer_xx:matrix.orgsimple-coderEmacs or Vscode can't be setup to make the font look good on this monitor?09:16:03
