@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️ but unfortunately, i can't get it to do 240Hz at 7680x2160 over DP 2.1, swaymsg -t get_outputs shows a max of 60Hz at that resolution 07:28:19
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️any ideas for things to try?07:28:24
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️ i'm using the cable that came in the box, which i would hope supports DP 2.1... 07:28:39
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️ (side note: the monitor does support ddc/ci, or at least ddcutil works to control the brightness) 07:29:55
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️ oh and i do have a 7900 XTX, so DP 2.1 should be supported by the GPU, cable, and monitor 07:30:43
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️i see a max of 60Hz in windows 11 too07:37:37
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️i suspect bad cable07:37:50
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️okay, turning off my second monitor in windows 11 let it do 240Hz08:22:29
@charles:computer.surgeryCharles ⚡️this made no difference in nixos though08:22:39
@corusc4te:matrix.orgcoruI am no expert, but you shouldnt be able to get that high of a refresh rate on 7680x2160, no idea how it meshes, but DP80 (the cable spec you'll need for high bandwidth) is only said to support 4k at 300 fps, if it scales linearly, your resolution should get 150 fps max. So it seems you have a DP40 cable. I'd be interested to see if you can achieve that high refresh rate with such a high resolution!08:55:34

depends on the game. ultrakill probably can, and also i can comfortably play it at 140 FoV on this monitor. it's nuts

Hi, when I try to run steam it just crashes on "Loading user data". When I run it in a terminal I get this:

@thegreenguy:beeper.comthegreenguyIt worked fine yesterday, didn't change anything.14:09:12
@sigmasquadron:matrix.org@sigmasquadron:matrix.org The easy solution is to just delete your entire steam installation and run it again. 14:09:38
@sigmasquadron:matrix.org@sigmasquadron:matrix.org the hard solution is to analyse the dump file it provided and figure out what’s wrong.  14:10:01

do you mean to rebuild switch after removing steam from my configuration.nix and then add it again?

No, I mean deleting everything in $HOME/.local/share/Steam
14:15:06
@thegreenguy:beeper.comthegreenguythat would delete my games and game data, right?14:15:50
@sigmasquadron:matrix.org@sigmasquadron:matrix.org Try deleting everything except the steamapps and userdata folders. It should force Steam to redownload everything while keeping your games and save data. 14:16:56
@sigmasquadron:matrix.org@sigmasquadron:matrix.org Also, unless you play very specific games with custom engines like Control or Frostpunk, userdata is probably safe to delete, since most games don’t use it at all. 14:18:45
@thegreenguy:beeper.comthegreenguyI'll try without both14:19:07
@thegreenguy:beeper.comthegreenguy(everything except both)14:19:16
@sigmasquadron:matrix.org@sigmasquadron:matrix.org Oh, and delete the files inside $HOME/.steam as well. 14:20:41
@sigmasquadron:matrix.org@sigmasquadron:matrix.org * Oh, and delete $HOME/.steam/registry.vdf as well. 14:21:33
@thegreenguy:beeper.comthegreenguyit's downloading now14:23:06
