@maralorn:maralorn.demaralornMy heroic launcher regularly turns into a unsresponsive white screen, which is very unusable. Is that a known thing?15:50:13
@k900:0upti.meK900Upstream Electron bug AFAIK15:50:36
@maralorn:maralorn.demaralornGreat15:50:51
@k900:0upti.meK900The next release should be on a non-dead Electron version15:51:06
@k900:0upti.meK900Hopefully15:51:07
@rikudou:lemmings.world@rikudou:lemmings.worldElectron should just die, it rarely works well.17:28:45

Electron should just die, it rarely works well.
it does have one legitimate use: making a browser
17:30:17
@tejing:matrix.org@tejing:matrix.orglike, one person can realistically create a daily-drivable browser using it, and it's not bloated because including a browser engine in a browser is kinda necessary :-P 17:32:43
@rikudou:lemmings.world@rikudou:lemmings.worldAt that point, you can just use the browser itself (I guess Chromium? Not sure what does Electron use)17:33:40
@tejing:matrix.org@tejing:matrix.org rikudou@lemmings.world: it's difficult to customize. with electron, you get all the guts from chromium, but it's easy to make the ui work however you like 17:34:12

@rikudou:lemmings.world@rikudou:lemmings.worldHm, not my cup of tea17:36:41
@tejing:matrix.org@tejing:matrix.orgit's honestly the only keyboard-focused web-browsing solution I've found that doesn't have huge caveats. extensions don't have enough UI control to make it work, things like qutebrowser have too many integration issues. the electron path just seems to work the best17:39:46

@rikudou:lemmings.world@rikudou:lemmings.worldGonna have to trust you on that, it's so far from my use-case that I can't really form an opinion17:41:50

That looks interesting. Is there something like that but based on Gecko/Spidermonkey? Don't really want to give Google more market share.

Not that I'm aware of.
18:02:42
@2xsaiko:tchncs.de@2xsaiko:tchncs.de the only way to use gecko without firefox that I'm aware of is https://github.com/sailfishos/qtmozembed 18:07:50
@k900:0upti.meK900Gecko is, sadly, a huge pain to embed18:09:06

I've used SailfishOS until recently, quite nice OS

@shivaau:matrix.orgShivaAU> That looks interesting. Is there something like that but based on Gecko/Spidermonkey? Don't really want to give Google more market share/control over the web. Ungoogled-Chromium is an option.20:44:25

@jacekpoz:jacekpoz.pljacekpoz 20:54:33
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.org ShivaAU: That's precisely not an option for that specific case. As long as everyone uses chromiums, Google has control over the web 20:55:34
@tejing:matrix.org@tejing:matrix.org Atemu: debatable, imo, given chromium is completely forkable if there was sufficient motivation to do so 21:00:18
