@alina:kescher.atalina changed their profile picture.14:25:31
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.org darkwater4213: I mean you could build something like that 14:38:30
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.orgVia steam-cli14:38:42
@tommy:datenkollektiv.net@tommy:datenkollektiv.net left the room.14:45:53
@sr.estegosaurio:matrix.org@sr.estegosaurio:matrix.orgSounds incredibly hacky if even doable.16:10:30
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.orgYou could probably even do it via Nix that way now that I think about it16:17:13
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.orgYou'd have to get your creds into the FOD but that should be doable16:17:38
@darkwater4213:matrix.org@darkwater4213:matrix.org~~well then why hasn't anyone done it~~17:18:59
@k900:0upti.meK900There's actually a whole bunch of problems with that17:19:16
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.orgBe the change you want to see17:19:22
@k900:0upti.meK900Mostly that steamcmd can't download a fixed revision17:19:31
@darkwater4213:matrix.org@darkwater4213:matrix.org In all seriousness, this would be basically useless to me until Nix on W*ndows is released. My ultimate goal is to never have to touch W*ndows ever again. 17:19:53
@k900:0upti.meK900And also I'm not sure if this is still a thing, or was ever really a thing on Linux native titles, but Steam used to fingerprint individual downloads17:20:02
@k900:0upti.meK900You can use Linux SteamCMD to download Windows apps, though17:20:24

Well... then flakes are impossible, sure. But I don't see why we can't do something like HM and create something like a steam-games channel?
17:21:02
@k900:0upti.meK900You also can't point Steam at store paths17:21:38

Not very useful for anti-cheat 😭
17:21:39
@k900:0upti.meK900It will explode17:21:42
@k900:0upti.meK900If it can't write to the game directory17:21:48

This is a project for the semi-distant future, I'm afraid.
17:22:11
@k900:0upti.meK900 The only way you can really do this is some sort of an ensureApps option that will just call Steam to auto-install things from a systemd service 17:22:12
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.org

I'm pretty sure I downloaded a specific revision through a CLI before
17:22:49
@k900:0upti.meK900It can download a beta branch17:24:14
@k900:0upti.meK900And some games, especially ones with dedicated servers, offer older versions as beta branches17:24:33

And thus darkwater4213 treads the path of the people before him

It can download a beta branch
No, a specific revision number
17:28:48
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.orgFacebook broke BeatSaber mods or something at some point and I just wanted to play my damn game17:29:17
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.orgSteam has revisions and they're exposed to users17:29:42
@atemu12:matrix.org@atemu12:matrix.orgNot through the Steam UI though of course17:29:55

Well, this is more for a playbook-type of application.
