Pratham Patel | And serving big customers, as one does | 13:43:28 |
Pratham Patel | Look at what they did to Horse Creek. It was once as sought after as the HiFive Unmatched successor, but years later, we only see a tiny demo at the Ubuntu Summit (might have the event wrong but it was demonstrated by some Ubuntu/Canonical folks) in ~Nov 2023. No pricing yet. | 13:44:56 |
Pratham Patel | Milk-V's Oasis will easily beat it in almost every single metric now | 13:45:18 |
K900 | Well 16 cores is a lot more than 4 cores either way | 13:46:11 |
K900 | And builders mostly do want more cores | 13:46:16 |
Pratham Patel | with up-to 96 GB RAM and 16x (maybe 16x physical but 8x electrical) PCIe 4.0 | 13:47:31 |
Pratham Patel | it's gonna be a monster | 13:47:39 |
Pratham Patel | starts at $120 USD; haven't told how much RAM that will have; and yes, the RAM is soldered | 13:48:10 |
fgaz | is mITX going to fit in the rack though? | 13:48:47 |
Mic92 | can be mITX bee grouped into 4 boards in rack unit? | 13:49:11 |
Pratham Patel | In reply to @thefossguy:matrix.org with up-to 96 GB RAM and 16x (maybe 16x physical but 8x electrical) PCIe 4.0 also 5x memory channels IIRC, so best to get the 96GB model to get max memory bandwidth, I am guessing they will order the same SKU of RAM to save cost and the $120 model is gonna have only one channel populated | 13:49:27 |

Pratham Patel | idk about mounting in rack but there is a 2U case kinda like two boxes mashed next to each other to fit two mITX mobos together, was mentioned in the follow up Ampere + HL45 NAS video by Jeff; hold on, lemme go check | 13:50:50 |

raitobezarius | I don't know if it's feasible | 15:52:30 |
raitobezarius | But I'd love to have an auto-retry on buildbot nix-eval | 15:52:38 |
raitobezarius | otherwise I basically have to let the eval fail, click rebuild myself to run CI | 15:52:52 |

@accelbread:matrix.org | I have a question about repo criteria for nix-community; nix-community/flakelight (a flake framework) has a few module repos available, and one of them has been seeing use and is stable (accelbread/flakelight-rust); would that be something that should be put in nix-community? Also asking since a contributor is working on a darwin module that seems like it'll be useful and would benefit from shared ownership | 17:38:02 |
Mic92 | In reply to @raitobezarius:matrix.org otherwise I basically have to let the eval fail, click rebuild myself to run CI The proper fix is to do git merge in the ci instead of having relying on the github merge to be present, if this is the same issue again that we had before. | 19:58:04 |
Mic92 | This weekend is for the nixos wiki and next weekend, I wanted to look into buildbot again. | 19:58:34 |
Jonas Chevalier | In reply to @accelbread:matrix.org I have a question about repo criteria for nix-community; nix-community/flakelight (a flake framework) has a few module repos available, and one of them has been seeing use and is stable (accelbread/flakelight-rust); would that be something that should be put in nix-community? Also asking since a contributor is working on a darwin module that seems like it'll be useful and would benefit from shared ownership The main criteria is if the project is useful and some level of maturity. Mostly what we want to avoid is having the org become a graveyard of abandoned or forever-mvp projects. Of course it's subjective and we can't predict the future, so we rely on everybody's honest feeling about the state of their project. | 21:34:33 |
@accelbread:matrix.org | Thanks, sounds good!
I'd like to transfer over https://github.com/accelbread/flakelight-rust then; could be put in existing flakelight team
Will transfer over once I get a go-ahead | 21:49:10 |
