@qbit:tapenet.org | and in the device info i see "set up voice assistant" but it fails (i thought because of the esphome stuff, but apparently not) | 13:59:11 |
laurynasp | just so that I am on the same page and I dont make any asumptions - if you say "okay nabu, what time is it?" do you get audio answer? | 14:05:38 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | negative | 14:08:27 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | i hear the activation sound, lights "spin" one direction, then the other, then go out | 14:08:54 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | when I hit the "set up voice assistant" in the device info page (under the esphome component) i get:
The voice assistant is unable to connect to Home Assistant
To play audio, the voice assistant device has to connect to Home Assistant to fetch the files. Our test shows that the device is unable to reach the Home Assistant server. | 14:11:19 |
laurynasp | Okay, I had this particular symptom, when:
- I did not have tts configure
- after configuring when tts service (in my case piper) was either not working (errorring out for various reasons) or when it was unaccessible (when i was running on another computer and network/firewal was misconfigured)
| 14:12:51 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | mm, maybe it's because esphome hasn't "taken control" of the device? .. hm that fails anyway.. | 14:13:02 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | i have tts configured, home assistant on android receives responses, as does my tiny m5stack atom echo | 14:13:28 |
@hexa:lossy.network | can the voice-pe connect to home-assistant? | 14:15:04 |
@hexa:lossy.network | does it have a route? | 14:15:06 |
@hexa:lossy.network | does the firewall allow it? | 14:15:09 |
@hexa:lossy.network | can you observe the traffic? | 14:15:15 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | it should, it's on the same network as the atom echo | 14:16:21 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | i'll try and observe the traffic | 14:16:30 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | esphome shows this:
*** Multiple ways to build the same target were specified for: /var/lib/esphome/.esphome/build/home-assistant-voice-096110/.pioenvs/home-assistant-voice-096110/esp_efuse_fields.c.o (from ['/var/lib/private/esphome/.platformio/packages/framework-espidf/components/efuse/esp32s3/esp_efuse_fields.c'] and from ['/var/lib/private/esphome/.platformio/packages/framework-espidf/components/efuse/src/esp_efuse_fields.c'])

@qbit:tapenet.org | when I try to take control | 14:16:43 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | heh, shrugemoji indeed | 14:17:28 |
@hexa:lossy.network | yeet it into space and try again? | 14:20:15 |
laurynasp |
I can say "ok nabu, turn xyz on" and it works Apologies for my pedantry, but do you refer here to your Voice PE or another device that reacts to "Ok Nabu"? I.e. if this is your voice pe that triggers successfull turn on of xyz, then voice pe does connect to home-assistant, at least partially conncts?

@hexa:lossy.network | this really sounds like a connection problem | 14:24:44 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | the voice PE is the device receiving the ok nabu, other is physically disconnected | 14:24:52 |
laurynasp | I had very similar symptom - it got fixed once voice-PE had a correctly configured access to tts service | 14:25:07 |
laurynasp | for me that voice under Settings -> Voice assitnt -> tts, annd voice-PE had access to it | 14:25:41 |
laurynasp | * for me that was under Settings -> Voice assitnt -> tts, annd voice-PE had access to it | 14:25:54 |
@qbit:tapenet.org | i'll check that, did a factory reset (kinda fun :D) | 14:26:58 |

@qbit:tapenet.org | bah, yeeted, but now I can't seem to re-add it | 14:37:18 |
laurynasp | can you see if ip address is still the same of voice-pe (e.g. via avahi-browse ) | 14:39:28 |
