@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI doubt we have ten well-maintained DEs in the tree21:14:42

In reply to @sigmasquadron:matrix.org
Does any other distro ship both desktops as usable sessions in their live ISOs?
many ship them as separate ISOs

@emilazy:matrix.orgemilywe combined them for cache size reasons just days ago21:14:58
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyit is a small change for Plasma users but a big one for GNOME21:15:38

Am aware, and I thought that was impressive since nobody else does that, as far as I know.

@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyright21:15:51
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI don't know how many of them want to. most of them don't have a $15k/month S3 bill21:16:13
@sigmasquadron:matrix.orgSigmaSquadron Fedora Everything built as an offline image is probably the closest thing, but despite literally everything being in the ISO, it's not actually a usable live desktop. 21:16:27
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyis that the entire package repo? how big is that?21:17:24
@sigmasquadron:matrix.orgSigmaSquadronlast i tried to do that was in Fedora 13 and it was about 21 GiB21:17:53

@joerg:thalheim.ioMic92They shouldn't be added to the cache in the first place08:47:06
@joerg:thalheim.ioMic92https://github.com/nixos/images is already reserved for this.08:47:33
@arianvp:matrix.orgArianSomething I and Mic wanted to work on... But we can only clone ourselves that often before the DNA deteriorates08:55:59
@arianvp:matrix.orgArianI did have a realisation that running the image build in emulated QEMU is probably fine. As the runInLinuxVm part is only very short. So we can realistically move the builds to GitHub actions runners.08:57:34
@arianvp:matrix.orgArian(before I thought we were blocked on the fact that GitHub doesn't support nested virtualization on ARM. But I don't think this is a problem in practise)08:58:02

Not strictly related to this topic, but can we package the latest kernel together for unstable ISO? Some people need the latest kernel for some reasons, such as having newly released devices
09:18:43
@k900:0upti.meK900We do have that option in the combined ISOs now I think?09:22:41
@k900:0upti.meK900Or did we drop it09:22:45
@k900:0upti.meK900 @ElvishJerricco do you remember? 09:22:55
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccono that's in there09:24:13
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccominimal and graphical ISOs now have latest kernel specialisations in the boot menu09:24:30
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccoI... I don't know what to make of "chart_with_upward_trend" :P09:27:53

@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátGraph of the ISO size 😉09:28:50
@emma:rory.gay@emma:rory.gaydont we already have a graph of that? lol09:29:12
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerricco yea, it was a tradeoff. We now don't build the two new_kernel ISOs at all, so in terms of cache size it's a saving 09:29:36
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátDon't get me wrong. I believe that this combining is a huge improvement.09:29:55
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír Čunát Jumped one-time with FORCE=1 also for nixos-unstable. Now it should all just work by itself. 10:36:10

Are you looking for help with this?
