@Ericson2314:matrix.orgJohn Ericson Mic92: et al patch is now merged, backports are set on auto-merge 00:22:14
@joerg:thalheim.ioMic92 @Ericson2314:matrix.org: okay. Hopefully we can have a patch release today if possible. 02:09:33
@Ericson2314:matrix.orgJohn EricsonDo you think we should patch then try, or try then patch?02:10:08
@joerg:thalheim.ioMic92NixOS infra could also apply the patch if someone wants to apply the patch. But I am fairly confident it fixes something at this point 02:16:06
@Ericson2314:matrix.orgJohn EricsonYes that's fair 03:02:28
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerricco So, the "redistributable software" RFC seems to be proposing to add ~1-2 TB per month of uploads to the cache. Do we know what the current growth rate is, and if that would be a sustainable size of addition? I know last year a lot of work was done to figure out how to make the cache more financially sustainable and this seems like a big step in the opposite direction. 14:08:15
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (signing key rotation when)you'd think we'd have a grafana dashboard for that number14:11:58

@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccothat's user downloads, not hydra uploads, right?14:14:01
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (signing key rotation when)that is the space we allocate in the S3 bucket14:14:33
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccooh, that makes more sense14:14:42
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyis the standard number going down from moving things to infrequent access?14:15:32
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (signing key rotation when)new stuff enters the standard tier and gets put into IA at some point14:16:14
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (signing key rotation when)that is a manual thing iirc14:16:20
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyso i guess in the region of 2–4.5% increase of current cache growth rate?14:18:54
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilymonthly14:19:01
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyuh wait no14:19:44
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyhad a - instead of a + :)14:19:58
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyso current growth rate is ~6.56 TiB/month, so cache growth size would be 1.15–1.3× current?14:20:34
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyhas there been any work or even proposals for things to reduce cache size growth other than "GC everything" that would have anything like a 15–30% impact/14:24:43
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily* has there been any work or even proposals for things to reduce cache size growth other than "GC everything" that would have anything like a 15–30% impact?14:24:46

@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (signing key rotation when) * that is a manual thing iirc 14:29:29
@vcunat:matrix.orgvcunatI've certainly heard proposals like GC everything that's never "been in a channel".14:29:58
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyright, that's what i meant re: GC14:34:40
