Vladimír Čunát | I'm unclear about what use is expected for these assets. Like, are webs expected to reference it and generate traffic to "us" that way? | 06:57:22 |

Hey all
Was already talking to Jeremy Fleischman (jfly) about this and I believe @avocadoom pinged hexa (signing key rotation when) about this as well. Bringing the conversation here now. The marketing team would like infra's help with ideas and possibly roll out for hosting the new branding assets.
I have this PR open for creating a branding page and that shows the guide and logos. https://github.com/NixOS/nixos-homepage/pull/1819 But as @avocadoom reminded me, we don't want the website to be the single source of truth for branding assets going forward.
Two options discussed so far are hosting the assets on GH Pages or S3 + Fastly.
I had concerns about every new release inflating the repo over time. Jeremy Fleischman (jfly) pointed out we could force push every new release into a single commit which seems fine. Another concerns I have is if these would cause any issues with rate limiting or misuse of GH pages. Maybe this concern is unfounded?
No concerns I could think of regarding S3 + Fastly. Would require more work from Infra though
Totally open to other ideas and options!
I would say whatever is more convenient. As long as you don't add video content, it shouldn't be a big issue. As long as we control the dns, we can relocate as needed. | 07:55:12 |

Mic92 | In reply to @joerg:thalheim.io Do what degree were you able to test that? @matthewkenigsberg:matrix.org: oh please don't use matrix threads. I only discover answers by accident. As for testing there is a way to create a free account on fastly. I could apply the change as is and hope for the best otherwise. In my experience it hasn't worked first try unfortunately | 08:03:24 |
Sandro | A friend just let me know that latest-nixos-gnome-x86_64-linux.iso on https://channels.nixos.org/?prefix=nixos-25.05-small/ links to https://releases.nixos.org/nixos/25.05-small/nixos-25.05.807449.ce01daebf848/nixos-gnome-25.05.807449.ce01daebf848-aarch64-linux.iso.sha256 which is a 404 | 13:34:34 |
hexa | Redacted or Malformed Event | 13:35:12 |
hexa | also, small does not have ISOs anymore | 13:35:29 |
hexa | * small does not have ISOs anymore | 13:35:54 |
Sandro | a good to know | 13:36:20 |
Vladimír Čunát | When did -small have graphical ISOs? | 13:36:26 |
Vladimír Čunát | The links on that page are "generic". Lots of the stuff doesn't exist. | 13:37:12 |
Vladimír Čunát | * The links on that page are "generic". Lots of the stuff intentionally doesn't exist. | 13:37:27 |
hexa | graphical never, only minimal | 13:38:32 |
Vladimír Čunát | Redacted or Malformed Event | 13:38:45 |
hexa | frankly, I don't know why we have the trailing slash prefixes | 13:38:57 |
Vladimír Čunát | Oops. I thought I was wrong. Let me repost. Maybe it's better to use links like https://releases.nixos.org/?prefix=nixos/25.05-small/ ? | 13:40:06 |
Sandro | true, especially since the combined ISO | 13:40:27 |
djacu | Sorry. By source of truth we meant that we don't want people to treat where the logo files are in the website as stable paths for linking. E.g. the Infra and Nixpkgs README files were previously linking to paths in the website to display the logo in the readme. The goal would be serving up the branding artifacts (currently just logos and branding guide PDF) to a location where we can use it for the website and repos can use it for their README | 15:33:51 |
Jeremy Fleischman (jfly) | djacu, that makes sense! Pick the tech you want to use, and let us know how we can help. I imagine at the very least you'll need a DNS entry. Feel free to send us a PR (relevant code here), or just ask for help here. | 16:43:15 |
Sandro | Is it just me or is hydra currently insanely slow? every request takes like 10s | 17:55:58 |

Sandro | hmmm, so someone or something is doing lots of load currently... | 18:20:40 |
| @paperdigits:matrix.org left the room. | 18:25:20 |
hexa | 700+ source addresses hammering out over 2.7million requests | 18:48:01 |
hexa | over 600k 429 responses | 18:48:06 |
hexa | source seems to be tor, but there is an email address in the user-agent | 18:48:16 |
@emma:rory.gay | personally i'd just throw up a few temporary iptables rules | 18:52:28 |
hexa | yeah, I'm temporarily blocking tor exits | 18:53:12 |
hexa | the requests stopped a minute after I sent the mail | 18:57:02 |
