João Moreira | Any work on making ghc 9.10 default? Or at least vetting ghcPackages that don't build on it? | 15:27:54 |
maralorn | Yes, the good folks over at stackage are currently curating the Stackage Nightly package set with GHC 9.10. As soon as they release that as Stackage LTS, we will follow that. However I expect this to take probably another half year. | 15:42:50 |
maralorn | Not, sure what you mean with "vetting". Some people are working on fixing builds for ghc 9.10 and 9.12 in nixpkgs and we have limited test coverage for that. | 15:43:53 |
João Moreira | In reply to @maralorn:maralorn.de Not, sure what you mean with "vetting". Some people are working on fixing builds for ghc 9.10 and 9.12 in nixpkgs and we have limited test coverage for that. I meant to veto a package, to mark the package as wontBuild on 9.10 or something like that. | 15:49:32 |
maralorn | We generally don’t do that. We mark packages as broken when they are broken on the default. We don’t maintain that information per ghc version. | 16:00:38 |
alexfmpe | Also, a lot of packages already build for 9.10 on the current LTS. Have you run into some of your dependencies not building? If it's just a few it's usually worth overriding locally until it works, then upstreaming those overrides to nixpkgs so you get cached builds etc | 16:36:57 |

tannerh | Hey! Having trouble with xmonad on nixos: https://discourse.nixos.org/t/system-with-minimal-xmonad-configuration-fails/61126
Can anyone point me in the right direction? | 01:20:25 |
Alex | Are you sure you want both config and enableConfiguredRecompile?
For that to work properly, you might need to implement your own restart key binding. | 01:57:22 |
Alex | Minimal btw is only setting windowManager.xmonad.enable = true. | 01:59:44 |

m1-s | I am updating my cabal file version from 2.2 -> 3.8. I am using convenience libraries, e.g. one cabal file declares multiple internal libraries. this worked before the update but after the update nix is giving me Setup: Encountered missing or private dependencies: myPrivateLib. cabal builds it successfully so this appears to be a regression? | 03:20:27 |

maralorn | Currently trying to merge PRs. Checking eval and builds really takes a lot of time when ofBorg is acting up … | 15:39:55 |
emily | eval should always be quick these days? | 15:40:39 |
emily | it's decoupled from ofborg | 15:40:42 |
maralorn | Or rather, I suck at understanding ofBorg results. | 15:40:56 |
maralorn | e.g.: What’s this: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/387911/checks?check_run_id=38382570966 ? | 15:41:08 |
maralorn | emily: Ah, thank you. Is the eval check enforced for merge? | 15:41:55 |
emily | of course not 🙃 | 15:42:08 |
maralorn | Why of course?^^ | 15:42:24 |
