@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them) and there's #thinkeys:nerdsin.space which might one day actually work 17:06:14
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)If it plays osu at 400Hz I would be happy :P17:06:22
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)i use my laptop as just a terminal+browser basically17:06:57
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)ssh into the dekstop, run the giant rust lsp17:07:06
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)Considering that my Deck does 400Hz osu (with a few hiccups, but I can't it is for thermal constraints) I think any AMD 7xxx will work once they have more availiability17:07:24
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)Ah, I need CPU performance17:07:35
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)all is Good (except when someone walks over my line of sight with the cell tower and messes with it and then it adds like 100ms latency to the keystrokes and its annoying)17:07:35
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)Don't have a desktop here17:07:40
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)also I'm using both machines right now17:08:02
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)I still need to compile one or another package in Nix, so I need a reasonable fast CPU17:08:04
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)the laptop is sitting flatish on the desk with x2x running so I can use its keyboard for the desktop17:08:27
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)
In reply to @k0kada:matrix.org
I still need to compile one or another package in Nix, so I need a reasonable fast CPU
(Or in case of retroarch, 90+ packages)
17:08:52
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)there's a keyboard around that has stuff on it that i use when i reboot once in forever17:08:58
* @ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them) goes to check prom17:09:12
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him) * Considering that my Deck does 400Hz osu (with a few hiccups, but I think it is for thermal constraints) I think any AMD 7xxx will work once they have more availiability17:09:46
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)ugh I should really store more history17:10:47

@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)I think that if Deck had a convenient way to run a fast external storage I would even just ditch a laptop and install NixOS in an external NVMe drive17:15:02
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)I don't use my laptop as a laptop17:15:12
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)probably same, but I am a sucker for a big keyboard and screen17:15:34
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)need the clicky feeling..17:16:08
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)
In reply to @ckie:ckie.dev
probably same, but I am a sucker for a big keyboard and screen
Yeah, this is what I meant, just the Deck docked with an external keyboard and monitor
17:16:33
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)And fast storage17:16:39
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)Well, the CPU performance on Deck is limited, but except for when I recompile too many things in NixOS this isn't a huge problem17:17:12
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)even my desktop struggles to rebuild my config when its nixpkgs update time17:17:40
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)too many patches17:17:50
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)speaking of nixpkgs update time.. I think it's now maybe17:18:01
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)I just build my whole config in GitHub Actions17:18:38
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)aha the builder would run out of ram here17:18:52
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)i have a host that runs a few services but was born to build the nixos config17:19:17
