@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)I want to make my laptop disappear16:57:33
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)NVIDIA is pretty shit16:57:37
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)yeah i have a 1050ti currently but sway.. swayed my decision16:57:52
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)i'll put the 1050ti in some headless config for future projects16:58:25
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)I don't care about sway (even if I did try to configure it), but my laptop is wired in a way that the HDMI is driven by NVIDIA GPU directly16:58:41
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)And it works pretty bad16:58:51
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)mhm, fun16:59:01
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)though if you have hdmi you can probably also plug power in?16:59:10
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)Now, Steam Deck with the open source RADV driver is amazing16:59:13

My main issue right now is that after waking up my laptop randomly doesn't display anything in HDMI
16:59:58
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)Need to take the cable out and plug again17:00:04
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)radv == amdgpu?17:00:04
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)Yeah, I think radv is the name of the MESA implementation17:00:18
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)oh yeah i have that on my desktop but a bit different17:00:23
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)i have a displayport 144hz freesync 1080p display and a boring 60hz hdmi one17:00:50
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)after suspend just Occasionally the displayport won't be activated and then i go to arandr and turn it on and apply settings and quit17:01:11
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)This notebook is really shit17:01:19
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)i can do it really fast with the alt menu since i do it so much17:01:21
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)It doesn't support VRR17:01:30
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)I think because VRR in NVIDIA is only supported by DisplayPort?17:01:48
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)But of course this laptop doesn't have DP17:02:04
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)$mod+a aran RET Alt+O down down right space esc tab tab ret $mod+shift+q17:02:10
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)The USB-C is just a USB port17:02:12
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)So yeah, completely fucked up17:02:23
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)model?17:02:30
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)gaming laptops have always looked either flimsy or too expensive to me17:02:44
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)They can't even configure the BIOS correctly, first time I booted this it used the old acpi_cpufreq driver for CPU scalling and I couldn't figure why it did17:02:55
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)Until I messed up some secret BIOS menu and found that they disabled Intel SpeedStep for some fucking reason17:03:13
@k0kada:matrix.orgk0kada (he/him)

At least the construction quality is good, but I think this is the only thing that I can say nice about this laptop
