uep | in this case, the mkDouble-from-a-string bit is an unfortunate artifact: nix floats are single precision, so if you just use those via the implicit conversion, gnome winds up resetting the values to the ones above on every start, then hm flips them back again, ad infinitum. I don't really know why gnome needs them set at all if it already knows what they are to reset them, but that's just how it is.
The main point of the example is the other nested structure | 22:02:55 |
Jan Tojnar | by the way, I recently made dconf2nix support variants and dictionaries. Still need to cut a release (after I fix the three small remaining issues that make my db dump fail to parse) | 23:22:08 |

Lily Foster | maxine: would you mind if i split out the gst bump out of the gnome 46 PR, since I see it currently looks like a subset of what i've got in my own branch (i've got several other fixes, ajantv2 working, cross, combinations of enable* or *Support args working, etc)? i planned on opening the gst bump PR today then if it was okay with y'all | 16:54:40 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | Lily Foster: sure, go ahead and pick out the commits. As long as the diffs overlap it won't be a problem for git 😅 | 16:58:06 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | I think the main reason we needed this is no longer true (requiring 1.24 was not intentional), so it shouldn't even be an issue | 16:58:57 |

penguin | In reply to @mannguyen:matrix.org any one installing theme on GNOME through home manager gtk but the top penel style doesnt seem to take effect like the color still stay black? so I figured it out turned out you need to enable user-themes extension and set the theme for it as well | 09:31:27 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | uep: Are you still keen by any chance on writing release notes? | 11:43:57 |

uep | uh, real-life events have kinda taken over suddenly the past couple of weeks. I can still look at it but please don't let that stop someone else jumping in first if they can. | 03:16:12 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | bobby285271: What's the current state of gnome-adjacent desktops? Are there any blockers there? | 11:22:51 |
SebTM | Hey, I'm also affacted by https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/300933#issuecomment-2061380389 - do you think we should try to patch/backport on our own (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/3475#note_2088824) or wait for gnome-v46? | 21:38:58 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | SebTM: I'd like to say we'll be merging next week, I just need to check with people what the right process is to make sure it doesn't cause mass disruption | 21:40:15 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | Fwiw the branch right now should be fully cached, so if you switch your system to using 46 you won't even be faced with major rebuilds | 21:40:46 |
SebTM | Thanks will do that to test 🙂 | 21:41:12 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | Jan Tojnar: I guess related to that, I feel pretty satisfied with the current state of the branch, there's afaik no regressions, open questions/issues in the PR aren't IMO blockers, the jobset finished building just fine. What's next, requesting the jobset get enabled for all platforms, waiting for that to finish, and then hitting merge? Anything else to watch out for? | 21:49:47 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | And related related, Lily Foster would you mind if we still include the gst changes as part of the gnome PR, if it can be merged soon? Or would you rather I drop those commits? | 21:50:34 |
Lily Foster | In reply to @maxeaubrey:matrix.org And related related, Lily Foster would you mind if we still include the gst changes as part of the gnome PR, if it can be merged soon? Or would you rather I drop those commits? if it'll be merged soon, sure i suppose you can leave them there. i didn't get to opening gst PR friday, but i did get my laptop out a few minutes ago and am working on it right now | 21:51:48 |
Lily Foster | (worst case i can still rebase my local changes on top of merged gnome PR, it's not much of a bother if that's preferable for y'all) | 21:52:21 |
SebTM | Hmpf it seems I'm doing something wrong - do you just use the gnome-46 branch as nixpkgs-input or overlay only gnome.* in your nixpkgs from the branch? I tried the first as I'm currently not depend on any commits on top of unstable or sth but the rebuild cycle directly started for me. Sorry to bother you with this my first time in a that big nixpkgs project ✌🏻 | 21:59:52 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | I am running from the branch directly, a lot of the libraries aren't in the gnome namespace so overlaying would be a fair bit more complicated | 22:02:08 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | In reply to @lily:lily.flowers (worst case i can still rebase my local changes on top of merged gnome PR, it's not much of a bother if that's preferable for y'all) Mostly saves some rebuilds all around, but I'll leave the decision up to you | 22:03:46 |
Lily Foster | In reply to @maxeaubrey:matrix.org Mostly saves some rebuilds all around, but I'll leave the decision up to you is the gnome PR going to staging? | 22:04:49 |
Lily Foster | if so, it won't be any more rebuilds if gst PR makes it into staging before next staging-next cycle | 22:05:07 |
@maxeaubrey:matrix.org | I think it's more likely to go directly to master? Unless I'm told to do so otherwise | 22:05:29 |
Lily Foster | even if it's a mass rebuild? 👀 | 22:06:06 |
