@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar systemd generates services for desktop files in $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS/autostart 08:32:41
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar(among other paths)08:33:20
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan TojnarIIRC gnome-software has autostart file so that it can notify you of updates08:33:55
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar though we only install it if you have flatpak installed, you can use environment.gnome.excludePackages to not install it if you do not use it 08:35:18
@uep:matrix.orguepah. I looked to see if I had the same, and it was nowhere to be seen. 08:36:32
@uep:matrix.orguepSo, yeah, confirmation that this works. It may be slightly too magic, but it works.08:37:44
@sugi:matrix.besaid.desugi changed their profile picture.11:54:42
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)I just saw this in the GTK room: https://pad.gnome.org/lB9NBpwCSmKEzZIVve__Vg# How will this work for nix? Currently glycin directly depends on gtk4, which directly depends on gdk-pixbuf, which probably should depend on glycin.21:19:07
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)which means we have a cyclic dependency. How do we break it?21:19:23
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)supposedly glycin would be cycle-free, but our package wouldn't be. SO some work required!21:28:07
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyusually we just have a separate bootstrap version of a package that omits the problematic dependency21:32:51
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)So i had a chat with the glycin people, and supposedly it is cycle-free in gnomeOS21:35:30
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)so we can probably break the cycle somehow21:35:39
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)(likely more precise meson flags to better split glycin across packages)21:36:00
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)i can poke tomorrow. Which is basically a rewrite of the glycin package from scratch, to properly split it and avoid cyclic deps, then feed libglycin to gdk-pixbuf and feed glycin-loaders (the runtime dep) to wrapGAppsHook21:39:53

There's two PRs on splitting glycin on nixpkgs right now (one of them by me)

@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)Oh hey!22:37:17

@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)Will check that out then22:37:22
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)is it sufficiently split to use libglycin in gdk-pixbuf? I think that should be the ultimate goal22:37:43
@normalcea:matrix.orgjasi 🏳️‍⚧️ I'm not sure what the best course of action would be for organizing around cyclical deps. 22:37:56
@normalcea:matrix.orgjasi 🏳️‍⚧️I don't know if my PR is what you're looking for22:38:37
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)In theory libglycin needs to build without gtk4 in the closure22:38:50
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)and glycin-loaders can be added at runtime using the wrapGAppsHook22:39:04
@grimmauld:grapevine.grimmauld.deGrimmauld (any/all)(or e.g. standard paths in /etc, the way systemd/dbus avoid cyclic deps)22:39:33

Yeah I would be stumped on how to do this

@andrew15_5:matrix.orgAndrewSpeaking of autostart, I've noticed at least 2 or 3 times I logged in and all my autostart apps just straight up didn't launch, so I had to re-log in. But I think a few that were run from systemd unit, did still run. I would've never thought that autostart is so unreliable.01:13:06
@andrew15_5:matrix.orgAndrewI have only one hunch: it might only happen randomly if I don't provide a correct password on the first try. I feel like I see this only when I fail at least once.01:14:10
