@maralorn:maralorn.de@maralorn:maralorn.deAnyone else experiencing weird artefacts around electron applications in gnome on unstable?13:12:47
@hexa:lossy.networkhexathe element channel bar is glitchy for me on sway, if that counts as a datapoint14:31:30

Might be an upstream bug. Fedora Rawhide is also having issues with electron on GNOME.

@sigmasquadron:matrix.orgSigmaSquadron * Might be a bug for upstream. Fedora Rawhide is also having issues with electron on GNOME. It might actually be an issue with mutter's XWayland implementation, not the apps themselves. 14:49:49
@uep:matrix.orguep FWIW, I haven't seen any such problem, using vscode and signal, and I have environment.sessionVariables.NIXOS_OZONE_WL = "1"; 15:12:23
@uep:matrix.orguepso if it actually is XWayland that could be bypassing it15:15:14
@uep:matrix.orguep * FWIW, I haven't seen any such problem, using vscode and signal and (until recently) teams, and I have environment.sessionVariables.NIXOS_OZONE_WL = "1"; 15:15:55
@maralorn:maralorn.de@maralorn:maralorn.deI have it with signal. So XWayland might be it.18:26:51

I'll try that.

Yeah, that fixes it.

Any blockers for making that the default?

@maralorn:maralorn.de@maralorn:maralorn.deIs anyone else using pop-shell tiling? It works amazingly well in comparison to any gnome tiling plugin I have ever tried. Sadly it has the very unpleasing bug of randomly reshuffling windows.^^ that has happened before but it got more frequent when I switched to unstable.19:38:26

It kinda is the default for some apps / versions of chromium, iiuc. This just encourages the others that are lagging.

yes, and yes.
23:21:50
@uep:matrix.orguepin particular, it tends to shuffle windows towards the first virtual desktop, if they were started on the second or later ones and their space is free on the first - but just once, the first time the screen unlocks after they've been started23:23:21
@uep:matrix.orguepit will sometimes also shuffle (say) a set of 4 instances of the same app, tiled on a single monitor, I think maybe based on which ones have generated alerts or popups or something.23:24:20
@uep:matrix.orguepit's mildly annoying but mostly ignorable and, as you say, better than any other current option I have seen23:24:54
@uep:matrix.orguepmost of the other options seem to have serious issues with multi-monitor cases from what I can tell, and these issues might also be a lesser aspect of the same thing23:25:37
@uep:matrix.orguep

Awesome, thanks!
Cool! But also that tends to confirm that it should be filed as a bug upstream
23:26:35
@maralorn:maralorn.de@maralorn:maralorn.deNot sure which upstream. Also had the issue with mumble. 23:33:02
@uep:matrix.orguepthe suggestion above was mutter's XWayland23:33:29
@uep:matrix.orguep (I don't know if that's the right suggestion either, but that's what I was referring to) 23:34:40

@jeff:ocjtech.usJeffIs there something special that I need to add to my config to get the background apps showing up in the quick settings menu?21:35:04
@sigmasquadron:matrix.orgSigmaSquadron You need GNOME 44, which is currently only available on NixOS 23.05. Switch to the unstable channel and upgrade your system. 21:42:54
@jeff:ocjtech.usJeffyep, already on unstable. fully up to date as of a few minutes ago21:45:25
@jeff:ocjtech.usJeffI think that I may have found the answer... https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/12ydvct/background_apps_feature_not_working_in_gnome_44/21:45:47
@jeff:ocjtech.usJeffLooks like it only works with things that were installed as flatpaks21:46:05
