@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeJust switched to NixOS 22.11. GNOME 43.1 is working nicely. Nothing is broken as far as I can tell. Great job!15:10:10

Unfortunately, not everything has survived the upgrade. Pop!_OS Shell now frequently crashes Mutter.

@optimal:kde.orgTheOPtimal

hi, i'm currrently writing a draft derivation for loupe, the upcoming GNOME image viewer that will hopefully replace eog.

question: should i add it to the gnome namespace or should i just add it outside? the recent GNOME apps have been added outside of the namespace, even ones that are part of the core.

13:58:04
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar TheOPtimal: it should be outside, we are slowly dissolving the namespace 14:48:59
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnaralso note there is https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/20269214:49:21

TheOPtimal: it should be outside, we are slowly dissolving the namespace
why? for future nix flake support?
15:34:49
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar TheOPtimal: the libraries are used by other programs so having them in a separate package set is annoying 15:53:00
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarand there is not much of a point in having a separate namespace for apps15:53:24
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarespecially when apps move in and out of core so often15:55:14

@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeIn the GTK file chooser there used to be a preview on the right when selecting an image. This is gone now for some time and since the file chooser does not yet support thumbnails, there is no way to see what image I am selecting. Is there a way to bring back the preview?20:08:04
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeScreenshot is the file chooser opened from EOG, but file chooser from Electron apps is similar.20:08:54

That was only implemented by some apps, not by GTK itself
15:54:31
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarthumbnails in the file chooser are being worked on by the way, hopefully they will be available in GNOME 44 in the spring15:56:00
