Capypara | * Hi! Tried building GNOME 49 (nixos-unstable) together with Jovian (SteamOS-like NixOS), there is some sort of conflict, but I can't figure out where exactly its coming from. Somebody have a clue or ideas on how to debug? All it's giving me is a user unit conflict with no further logging than:
ln: failed to create symbolic link '/nix/store/01q6wg55brqjyf0rjxrgg34gp48d0df9-user-units/orca.service': File exists
| 11:30:37 |
ElvishJerricco | Capypara: so, I think the bug actually is a nixos thing not really related to gnome | 12:05:12 |
ElvishJerricco | well, "bug" | 12:05:55 |
ElvishJerricco | it seems like we were previously fine with service files colliding from different systemd.packages and now we're not | 12:06:17 |
ElvishJerricco | I suspect it'll be the buildEnv thing that changed in the last staging cycle | 12:06:33 |
ElvishJerricco | oh, lol, no I'm wrong. We've always errored when two systemd.packages tried to have the same unit files. I somehow completely glossed over the fact that we now add orca to systemd.packages when we didn't before. | 14:08:22 |
ElvishJerricco | Capypara: So this is actually a Jovian bug :P | 14:08:37 |
ElvishJerricco | because Jovian's steamos-manager is also providing orca.service | 14:09:09 |
ElvishJerricco | (K900: why is it doing that?) | 14:09:30 |
K900 | It's trying to use a custom one | 14:09:48 |
K900 | I'm not entirely sure what the difference is | 14:09:53 |
Capypara | another issue: GNOME on nixos-unstable reports it's version as "undefined" in regards to Extensions, that prevents any extension from loading. Is that already known? | 14:39:29 |
Capypara | Wait okay no, that just seems to be a localization bug, if I switch language to english it says 49.1, but I'm still confused, why are they not working...? | 14:40:54 |
Capypara | Download bild.png | 14:40:56 |
Capypara | Also for some reasons no keyboard shortcuts work in Firefox | 14:42:32 |
ghpzin | Need extension update to 61:
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-support/ | 14:42:34 |
ghpzin | Download image.png | 14:43:10 |
Capypara | oh, so all extensions in Nixpkgs are just out of date? | 14:43:09 |
Capypara | I have 14 installed, none of them are compatible it seems | 14:44:16 |
Capypara | I didn't even want to update GNOME yet, I know 25.11 isn't out yet, I just missed that GNOME 49.1 landed in unstable now already - and I guess now I can't really go back anymore 😅 | 14:45:25 |
Capypara | that image doesn't load for me unforunately | 14:45:38 |
ghpzin | https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/461080 Seems like update is on master, just did not get to unstable yet | 14:46:06 |
Capypara | ah great, was just about to check | 14:46:25 |
Capypara | Well I'll live with this then for a few days :) | 14:46:35 |
Capypara | but no working shortcuts in Firefox is really strange | 14:46:43 |
Capypara | okay they just randomly now work again, and I can't reproduce it anymore. 🤷♂️ | 15:03:06 |
ElvishJerricco | Ok, I don't actually use orca; I just noticed that it was definitely broken: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/461953 | 15:30:17 |
ElvishJerricco | can anyone who actually uses orca on nixos-unstable test this? | 15:30:33 |
Capypara | I don't know if I'm just unlucky, but wow has GNOME 49 been unstable for me so far. | 20:46:04 |
Capypara | For example, GNOME consistently crashes when trying to close a background app | 20:46:19 |
