@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarand eclipse is java thing so probably still stuck on GTK214:47:44
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarif your app is GTK 3, that would be something we could look into14:48:42

and eclipse is java thing so probably still stuck on GTK2
Nope, there's only one eclipse packaging left that still uses GTK2 (eclipse-scala-sdk, which is a weird branch-off Eclipse Oxygen (2017))
14:49:21
@piegames:matrix.orgpiegames Okay, I'll try to reproduce it on my application with proper packaging and then come back (at the moment I'm using a simple shell.nix, so it's not really pure at all) 14:50:07
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnareither way, it is some kind of weird java toolkit thing14:50:09
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarso I am not really familiar with it14:50:26
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar piegames: though, thinking about it, if you are still on old GNOME, that uses different schemas for some font settings 14:57:57
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar(hinting, etc.)14:58:11
@piegames:matrix.orgpiegamesI'm on 3.38 (and currently updating to 40)14:58:35
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan TojnarI do not think it would affect the window buttons or theme, thouhg14:58:38
@piegames:matrix.orgpiegamesSo these things are controlled via gsettings, so I guess some env variable/build sandboxing cuts off that connection, falling back to defaults14:59:24
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnaryou can try running the app with G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all15:00:26
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar * you can try running the app with G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all env var 15:00:37
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarit should at least tell you which gsettings backend is used15:00:53
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar(should be dconf)15:00:59

piegames: I think overrides à la haskell’s configuration common would be most convenient
I just had a look at https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/pkgs/development/haskell-modules/default.nix. You sure about that?
00:37:03
@piegames:matrix.orgpiegames I mean, I'd be a really big gun for that problem … 00:37:14
@piegames:matrix.orgpiegames * I mean, it'd be a really big gun for that problem … 00:37:18
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar piegames: no need to go all out with multi-layer overlays, just meant the general direction that we would have an overlay that could fix issues like https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/4a34590eced7ec7aadf4a64105d7a88125919738/pkgs/development/haskell-modules/configuration-common.nix#L16-L21 06:48:01
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenke Jan Tojnar: I tried looking at sysprof, but as I said there is no actual resource congestion. The system load doesn't increase during those freezes. It appears to me as if the screen is just not refreshed. 13:17:31
@gilganix:matrix.org-(𝕂eloτ)-Redacted or Malformed Event13:18:10
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeAlso sysprof is not too useful right now, because I'm not really sure what I am looking for.13:18:48
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeI've also checked the settings and found that the maximum refresh rate that I can choose is 59.95 Hz, when the display is actually rated for 60 Hz. Maybe that is an indication.13:18:49
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeOn Xorg these problems are not there (I think). However, touchpad gestures don't work on Xorg.13:20:16
@gilganix:matrix.org-(𝕂eloτ)- Jan Tojnar: Does chrome-gnome-shell work as intended? If so, what is the required settings for one to have it work properly with Gnome Web and Firefox nightly downloaded from the mozilla-overlay? 23:53:18
7 Jun 2021
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar -(GNU/ℝτ)-: It should work with firefox from nixpkgs, firefox from other sources probably will not work 00:37:34

-(GNU/ℝτ)-: It should work with firefox from nixpkgs, firefox from other sources probably will not work
That's unfortunate 😕
00:40:04
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar -(GNU/ℝτ)-: In particular, it needs a native messaging host description (https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/37e366dd8c416fbe9a6f30d7b00e311041935f54/pkgs/applications/networking/browsers/firefox/wrapper.nix#L59) and firefox-bin does not not respect that configuration 00:40:09
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar(assuming mozilla-overlay is based on firefox-bin)00:40:35
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarwell, you can also try to install the native messaging host description manually00:41:05
