In reply to @hmenke:matrix.org
Here is a related thread on Discourse: https://discourse.nixos.org/t/gnome-login-fingerprint-issue/13760
Yeah, I know about it, it was there from the start (https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/117081#issuecomment-834205394) but I do not have any hardware where I could reproduce it and the logs do not seem very helpful
14:46:32
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenke Jan Tojnar: What do you think would be a promising target to investigate? (maybe gdm?) The fprintd logs look innocent, even with `G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all`. 14:54:43
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar hmenke: anything fr 17:26:30
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar * hmenke: anything from gdm, through pam to fprint may be responsible 17:27:05
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan TojnarI am not very familiar with this part of the stack, unfortunately17:27:34
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnarthe best bet would be going to #gdm:gnome.org17:28:01
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar * the best bet would be going to #gdm:gnome.org and asking for some debugging advice there17:28:18
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenke Jan Tojnar: I have some logs for you. 18:19:40
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeDownload fprint.log18:19:50

Particularly the bit

@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeA search also turned up this https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common_F34_bugs#login-authselect-fingerprint-error18:21:53
@hmenke:matrix.orghmenkeThis is the linked bug report https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=194244318:23:45
@maxeaubrey:matrix.orgmaxine (they/them) joined the room.22:58:50
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar hmenke: I have seen that. But I do not see how that is applicable, we do not have sssd or authselect. 23:28:28
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan TojnarAnd it was not clear to me from the bug report what is actually causing the issue, only that Fedora somehow fixed it23:28:57
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar Maybe the GNOME Shell patch fixed it (but it sounded like a hack and the instructions do not really look like the issue has anything to do with gnome-shell)23:29:24

@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar hmenke: yeah, 0001-gdm-Work-around-failing-fingerprint-auth.patch is the patch I was referring to. The MR !1821 is already in Nixpkgs. 11:58:39
