@sonjiku:matrix.org50nj1kuIn my case pavucontrol has 2 different microphones to select from for the internal sound card. One of them is just the same name as the other with " (unplugged)" appended at the end. Try switching them if its the same case for you.02:25:03
@fractivore:cyberia.club@fractivore:cyberia.clubI am having such woes with keeping my midi device connected to ardour ☚ī¸02:26:23
@fractivore:cyberia.club@fractivore:cyberia.clubAny recommendations? Is there something better for loading instrument plugins into to use for performances?02:27:10

Hey does anybody know how to enable "pro audio" mode for PipeWire on NixOS?
I found that you can run pavucontrol, and in the configuration tab you can set your device profile to "Pro Audio"

@Minijackson:matrix.orgMinijacksonnot the most PipeWirey thing to do, but it works!06:56:30

@fractivore:cyberia.club@fractivore:cyberia.clubI was looking around for a good SF2 player for a bit... And ya know what came through for me? Ardour8's ACE FluidSynth.07:50:33
@fractivore:cyberia.club@fractivore:cyberia.clubfluidsynth (the CLI program) - too much work to get started, plus you really want a GUI for this kind of stuff. linuxsampler with qsampler frontend - far too buggy to use, I couldn't get past the bugs to even make sound from it. Those were the ones I tried before realizing Ardour8 has ACE FluidSynth and trying it out. CALF FluidSynth - not packaged for nix yet ?07:52:49
@Minijackson:matrix.orgMinijackson isn't CALF FluidSynth part of pkgs.calf? I never checked 07:55:17
@fractivore:cyberia.club@fractivore:cyberia.clubDoesn't seem to be.07:56:17
@fractivore:cyberia.club@fractivore:cyberia.clubBut there is always a very solid chance I'm just being dumb 😆07:57:35

Probably a few different ways to debug it... Sorry for the late reply. Have you looked at it with qpwgraph or a visual tool like that?
Thanks, actually the solution was to run alsactl init. No idea what it does exactly, but seems to work.

@fractivore:cyberia.club@fractivore:cyberia.clubI'm a vim person, sorry, no clue about the emacs ecosystem 😅03:42:42
@technicus:matrix.orgMiles DysonThanks, I am a total noob. New to NixOS, New to Emacs, New to Vim, new to live music coding, new to pipewire, new to I3 . . . I am learning everything all at once.05:02:29

Never fear, you've come to the right place 🙂

@fractivore:cyberia.club@fractivore:cyberia.club If you're totally new to livecoding, I would suggest checking out sonic-pi! I have found it to be by far the most powerful and practical livecoding language. It's built on SuperCollider (which you can also use directly), but most importantly, it contains integrated tutorials that can get you up and running in a jif and which you can reference easily as you code. 05:53:47
