 symys | I've had an issue where it forgets which synth presets I'm using if I close the file, regardless of save state. Kind of a deal breaker. But I almost always have ardour open anyway when I'm going audio, so I decided to just use that even though it's overkill for quite a few cases.  IdeallyYes | I've tried both PipeWire proper (in fact both Reaper and Bitwig support PipeWire out of the box) and jackd compatibility layer. I think I'd prefer the jackd compatibility for now. I'm wondering if you could run say iZotope Ozone "real-time" with a Threadripper or EPYC processor, with processing to spare, using a workstation/server grade CPU from a few generations ago. This is unfortunately for a Windows system :/ since it needs to run something that is only available on Mac or on Windows, which means finding some Windows Enterprise license to open up all them cores, but still. | 22:49:48 |

In regards to diminishing returns for audio processing, what workstation grade or server grade system is sort of the "limit" before it can't push the buffer any harder? I'm wondering if you could run say iZotope Ozone "real-time" with a Threadripper or EPYC processor, with processing to spare, using a workstation/server grade CPU from a few generations ago. This is unfortunately for a Windows system :/ since it needs to run something that is only available on Mac or on Windows, which means finding some Windows Enterprise license to open up all them cores, but still. No. I absolfrigginlutely LOVE Ableton Live. I'm not leaving it for anything, and there really is no open source alternative. Btw, I use this rig LIVE and not just in private, and also in collaboration with others. | IdeallyYes | With a regular workstation? Hell no. Your buffer is going to take a beating. But I suspect that it can be run live if there is enough memory bandwidth, more CPU cache and also software RAID'ed SSD's. Think taking all the most power hungry, absolutely bonkers mastering plugins and using them live.. it's a benchmark, because I'm trying to help some people go for a single server rather than having like 3 laptops and one NUC on stage, that they can put in their rack. | 20:10:34 |
