@fractivore:cyberia.club | Long live ardour | 18:24:18 |
ckie (they/them) | mine is currently a resounding meh with pipewire | 18:36:11 |
Minijackson | I haven't found that many bugs in Carla so far, I plan on using it to make some live music, and I prefer launching something smaller than Ardour for this kind of setup | 18:36:36 |
Minijackson | Ardour 100% for recording / mastering though | 18:37:11 |
n3v3r_a9a1n | I found out that my main problem was usbguard 🤣 | 18:52:21 |

yoggurt | Hello, is there any work necessary for making pipewire and reaper work together? | 19:28:22 |
Minijackson | I don't know much about reaper, but you might want to enable the jack compatibility module in pipewire | 19:43:06 |
Minijackson | services.pipewire.jack.enable = true; | 19:43:21 |

@fractivore:cyberia.club | I've had an issue where it forgets which synth presets I'm using if I close the file, regardless of save state. Kind of a deal breaker. But I almost always have ardour open anyway when I'm going audio, so I decided to just use that even though it's overkill for quite a few cases. Fortunately I haven't had too many issues with Ardour's memory usage or anything. | 11:58:01 |
@janik0:matrix.org | In reply to @xxxcrow:matrix.org I found out that my main problem was usbguard 🤣 lol I had a fun problem once where usbguard was on by default and I created a portable iso and put it on a USB drive, boot went fine until systemd-units started then suddenly the filesystem froze, go figure | 12:05:45 |

@ThorHop:matrix.org | I've tried both PipeWire proper (in fact both Reaper and Bitwig support PipeWire out of the box) and jackd compatibility layer. I think I'd prefer the jackd compatibility for now. Seems jackd compatibility even got better with 1.0. But my laptop is a crusty Lenovo Yoga, so... yeah.. | 22:01:04 |

@ThorHop:matrix.org | In regards to diminishing returns for audio processing, what workstation grade or server grade system is sort of the "limit" before it can't push the buffer any harder? I'm wondering if you could run say iZotope Ozone "real-time" with a Threadripper or EPYC processor, with processing to spare, using a workstation/server grade CPU from a few generations ago. This is unfortunately for a Windows system :/ since it needs to run something that is only available on Mac or on Windows, which means finding some Windows Enterprise license to open up all them cores, but still. | 22:49:48 |

@fractivore:cyberia.club | If it doesn't support Linux or any free OS, it's garbage software IMO. | 19:02:36 |
@fractivore:cyberia.club | I would be willing to help you find a substitute tool that will work on NixOS or Linux. | 19:03:35 |
