you can use pw-viz if you want
I'll have to check that out
18:15:43
@Minijackson:matrix.orgMinijacksonelse, the Patchbay of Carla is pretty nice18:17:31
@fractivore:cyberia.clubsymysI was trying to do audio on NixOS for a little while, but I switched to AV Linux: MX Edition because I was too much of a NixOS noob to do anything I wanted. But my dream would be to have a fully declarative audio configuration in NixOS that I can spin up from a repo if, for example, a computer that I brought to a convention to do a livecoding set completely dies and I need to use a backup (I was actually in this situation, but instead it's how I ended up on AV Linux: MX Edition since I did not have the aforementioned dreamy declarative audio config)18:20:42

Yeaaahhh, but, idk Carla is kinda buggy and not well maintained, I decided to stop using it recently and rely on ardour + qjackctrl for the same functionality

@fractivore:cyberia.clubsymysLong live ardour 18:24:18
@ckie:ckie.devckie (they/them)mine is currently a resounding meh with pipewire18:36:11
@Minijackson:matrix.orgMinijackson I haven't found that many bugs in Carla so far, I plan on using it to make some live music, and I prefer launching something smaller than Ardour for this kind of setup 18:36:36
@Minijackson:matrix.orgMinijacksonArdour 100% for recording / mastering though18:37:11
@xxxcrow:matrix.orgn3v3r_a9a1nI found out that my main problem was usbguard 🤣18:52:21

@yoggurt:matrix.orgyoggurtHello, is there any work necessary for making pipewire and reaper work together?19:28:22
@Minijackson:matrix.orgMinijacksonI don't know much about reaper, but you might want to enable the jack compatibility module in pipewire19:43:06
@Minijackson:matrix.orgMinijackson services.pipewire.jack.enable = true; 19:43:21

Maybe I should actually report the bugs instead of just complaining about them 🥴
11:54:23
@fractivore:cyberia.clubsymysI've had an issue where it forgets which synth presets I'm using if I close the file, regardless of save state. Kind of a deal breaker. But I almost always have ardour open anyway when I'm going audio, so I decided to just use that even though it's overkill for quite a few cases. Fortunately I haven't had too many issues with Ardour's memory usage or anything.11:58:01

lol I had a fun problem once where usbguard was on by default and I created a portable iso and put it on a USB drive, boot went fine until systemd-units started then suddenly the filesystem froze, go figure

@ThorHop:matrix.orghopland (meticulous montesquieu)I've tried both PipeWire proper (in fact both Reaper and Bitwig support PipeWire out of the box) and jackd compatibility layer. I think I'd prefer the jackd compatibility for now. Seems jackd compatibility even got better with 1.0. But my laptop is a crusty Lenovo Yoga, so... yeah..22:01:04
