@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatThis is qpwgraph, the pipewire offering for patching. It does what I need, so far. Pretty much like qjackctl20:09:04
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatNow I need to figure out how session management is handled now.20:09:48
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatSome of these patches get really crazy. I don't want have to wire it up manually in a gui each time.20:10:20
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatI wonder if the same tools that worked with jack still do.20:10:39
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughi think so20:11:18
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatThat would make me happy.20:11:35
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatSo maybe tonight I'll started down the list again of apps and things I was doing before and see where I stand.20:12:04
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatFor modular soft synths though, ams is the sweet spot for me. I don't really care about the eye candy.20:12:53
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughtruth be told, i tend to just select presets, i am not much of a make-my-own-noise guy :)20:13:49
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatIs everything you like to use working for you right now?20:14:12
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughi used harrison mixbus for many years (it's a fork of ardour, and closed source,that doesn't work clearly, but it's not difficult to replace)20:15:27
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughand other stuff i just haven't tried yet tbh20:15:42
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughi punted to my mac lol20:15:49
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatI'm kind of minimal in terms of UI. I used ecasound for a long time before moving to Ardour.20:16:44
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughany tool is probably too much tool for me honestly, i just mess around :)20:17:25
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughthe thing i tend to overuse most is a roland rc-505 looper, which is super convenient for recording stuff without any daw in sight20:18:15
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatNIce20:18:35
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughthat doesnt work out of the box on linux but a kernel patch fixes it20:18:40
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatLike, the editor for it?20:19:02
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughas an alsa device... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX_s2lLHRgM20:19:44
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughits both pcm input and a midi device20:20:32
@mcdonc:matrix.orgChris McDonoughi usually just set it up to be the master midi clock and use the knobs to adjust tempo, thats all the midi is good for to me20:21:06
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatOh, OK.20:21:31

@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatI had a thought about testing some of these audio tools and configurations. Seems like we could use a combination of `nix-shell` and `wireplumber` to pull dependencies and arrange things so the utility under test could be run.11:41:10
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatIf pipewire is the future, then so is wireplumber, I guess. So we need to get our heads around that.11:43:03
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatAt the very least, we should be able to use this to share examples. But ideally we could create a test suite this way.11:44:26
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatAlso, we could create working audio environments just as we do for software development.11:47:42
@sjfloat:matrix.orgsjfloatIf anyone here is very acquainted with wireplumber, I may have some questions 11:50:24
