Tristan Ross | I was hoping to onboard the new release team while I am at work | 17:29:04 |
lennart | well, there is this, but that is not sufficient https://github.com/Spirizeon/dotfiles/blob/main/configuration.nix | 17:29:06 |
Tristan Ross | I'm not sure why we got a lot more release editors apply than managers | 17:30:07 |
lennart | yea that was uncommon | 17:30:26 |
Sandro š§ | are there really no other applicants? | 17:33:54 |
Tristan Ross | There was only 2 who applied | 17:36:24 |
Tristan Ross | One with no nixpkgs contributions | 17:36:34 |
Tristan Ross | One with some but no commit bit | 17:36:44 |
Scrumplex | I'd be willing to jump in if no one else is interested. I have commit access | 17:43:45 |
SigmaSquadron | In reply to @rosscomputerguy:matrix.org I'm not sure why we got a lot more release editors apply than managers possibly because editors don't need to be committers? | 17:48:35 |
Scrumplex | https://discourse.nixos.org/u/scrumplex

Scrumplex | I think release manager just sounds much scarier than release editor. It feels like there is much more responsibility involved with that ^^ | 17:50:03 |
Tristan Ross | Yeah, I was also hoping to mention this at Planet Nix during the State of the Union but there wasn't time for it. | 17:51:06 |
Tristan Ross | In reply to @scrumplex:duckhub.io I'd be willing to jump in if no one else is interested. I have commit access That's great, I'll see at the end of the week. | 17:51:35 |
hexa | the reality is that release manager has a baseline commitment and can be much more involved if you want to make it a great release cycle | 17:57:34 |

dish [Fox/It/She] | I specifically only applied for release editor since that's what I'm confident I'm strongest in, and I also cannot dedicate the time commitment to being the release manager for a release. Maybe a dual release manager, like what we have for release editors, would be something to consider for the future? That way we could do a similar mentor/mentee relationship like release editors now, and can also have a bit of redundancy in case of any issues(health, mental, physical, whatever) | 16:04:47 |
dish [Fox/It/She] | that might help the release process run a little smoother | 16:04:55 |

Tristan Ross | The previous release manager helps the new one out | 16:23:53 |
Tristan Ross | Though, the release wiki does a decent job of things | 16:24:06 |
| avocadoom changed their profile picture. | 16:35:44 |
Morgan (@numinit) | I was asked the other day (I've got my commit bit in progress) and would like someone from another city to have a chance. Tristan and I are in the same SNUG, and while that would be convenient NixOS is a global community so I'll respectfully decline this time. Some other time, though. :-) | 20:39:30 |
Morgan (@numinit) | Would certainly be neat to look over shoulders at, and hope the process goes well | 20:40:28 |

infinisil | Tristan Ross Suggestion: For a release manager, create a Nixpkgs issue and ping the entire Nixpkgs committers team. Those are the only persons that can take the position, so it's much more focused than anything else | 18:19:37 |
