@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross I was hoping to onboard the new release team while I am at work 17:29:04
@lennart:0520.chlennartwell, there is this, but that is not sufficient https://github.com/Spirizeon/dotfiles/blob/main/configuration.nix17:29:06
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross I'm not sure why we got a lot more release editors apply than managers 17:30:07
@lennart:0520.chlennartyea that was uncommon17:30:26
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧are there really no other applicants? 17:33:54
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross There was only 2 who applied 17:36:24
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross One with no nixpkgs contributions 17:36:34
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross One with some but no commit bit 17:36:44
@scrumplex:duckhub.ioScrumplexI'd be willing to jump in if no one else is interested. I have commit access17:43:45

possibly because editors don't need to be committers?

@scrumplex:duckhub.ioScrumplexI think release manager just sounds much scarier than release editor. It feels like there is much more responsibility involved with that ^^17:50:03
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan RossYeah, I was also hoping to mention this at Planet Nix during the State of the Union but there wasn't time for it.17:51:06

That's great, I'll see at the end of the week.
17:51:35
@hexa:lossy.networkhexathe reality is that release manager has a baseline commitment and can be much more involved if you want to make it a great release cycle17:57:34
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerricco joined the room.18:58:24

@pyrox:pyrox.devdish [Fox/It/She]I specifically only applied for release editor since that's what I'm confident I'm strongest in, and I also cannot dedicate the time commitment to being the release manager for a release. Maybe a dual release manager, like what we have for release editors, would be something to consider for the future? That way we could do a similar mentor/mentee relationship like release editors now, and can also have a bit of redundancy in case of any issues(health, mental, physical, whatever)16:04:47
@pyrox:pyrox.devdish [Fox/It/She]that might help the release process run a little smoother16:04:55

I believe dual release manager is how we currently have it
16:23:42
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross The previous release manager helps the new one out 16:23:53
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan Ross Though, the release wiki does a decent job of things 16:24:06
@avocadoom:avocadoom.deavocadoom changed their profile picture.16:35:44
@numinit:matrix.orgMorgan (@numinit)I was asked the other day (I've got my commit bit in progress) and would like someone from another city to have a chance. Tristan and I are in the same SNUG, and while that would be convenient NixOS is a global community so I'll respectfully decline this time. Some other time, though. :-)20:39:30
@numinit:matrix.orgMorgan (@numinit)Would certainly be neat to look over shoulders at, and hope the process goes well20:40:28
@federicodschonborn:matrix.org@federicodschonborn:matrix.org changed their display name from Federico DamiƔn (he/they) to This Federico DamiƔn is licensed under the terms of the he/him or they/them pronouns, at your choice.23:20:30

@infinisil:matrix.orginfinisil Tristan Ross Suggestion: For a release manager, create a Nixpkgs issue and ping the entire Nixpkgs committers team. Those are the only persons that can take the position, so it's much more focused than anything else 18:19:37
