@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Rosslike, why do they test different packages?13:56:22
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír Čunáthttps://hydra.nixos.org/job/nixpkgs/trunk/darwin-tested vs. https://hydra.nixos.org/job/nixpkgs/trunk/unstable13:56:25
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír Čunát Well, I don't know. I see Linux people using nixpkgs-unstable as well, especially with home-manager (it's the default I think). 13:57:04
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátI'm not aware of any reasons for the differences in release-critical packages.13:58:46
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátI think this has been very ad-hoc so far.13:59:30
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátWaiting for someone to really organize it.13:59:45

I feel like there should be a Darwin Release Manager
Yes, and we should bully them for caring about Darwin.
14:01:17
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusI'm not for bullying in any cases :) — but I think a Darwin RM would be much more responsible than me towards Darwin14:01:46
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius * I'm not for bullying in any cases :) — but I think a Darwin RM would be much more responsible than (me or hexa? :D) towards Darwin14:01:51
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusI mean, I assume we only really use Linux14:02:01
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátWell, not just RM. Darwin-specific issues happen all the time.14:03:18
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusWell, I think it's about incremental14:03:44
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusRM is less engaging and is impactful for our releases14:04:09
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír Čunát I just dropped it from darwin-tested. 14:05:11
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátBut it's all weird.14:05:18
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátLike, there are only x86 packages in there.14:05:27

@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátSo even if aarch64-darwin were completely broken, we would still get a channel bump.14:05:53
@kranzes:matrix.orgIlan Joselevich (Kranzes)Forcing exclusively Linux users to deal with messy Darwin stuff is just so incredibly frustrating.14:06:33
@kranzes:matrix.orgIlan Joselevich (Kranzes)It'd be better to have someone that uses Darwin (thus means they care for Darwin) to deal with Darwin issues 14:07:13
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír Čunát@darwin-maintainers exist at least and can be pinged in such cases.14:07:47
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír ČunátBut I don't think it works that well in practice.14:07:58

Aaah, we can't have 23.05 darwin channel because release critical stuff (wireshark) hasn't been building since January and noone seems to mind 🤦

Qt 5 was modified to target SDK 11 earlier this year, while stdenv is at 10.12
14:08:02
@vcunat:matrix.orgVladimír Čunát(at least we have ofBorg)14:08:04
@kranzes:matrix.orgIlan Joselevich (Kranzes)Darwin is a black box and hard to debug on and it gets even worse if you don't have direct access to a Darwin machine.14:08:17

14:08:48
@wegank:matrix.orgWeijiaI suspect almost all Qt 5 packages are broken there for mixing SDKs.14:10:16
@wegank:matrix.orgWeijia * I suspect almost all Qt 5 packages are broken there for mixing SDKs14:10:24
@wegank:matrix.orgWeijiaClearly not an issue on aarch64-darwin14:11:25
@wegank:matrix.orgWeijiaBut Qt 6 now asks for SDK 12 :-(14:11:40
