Publish a "Let's have a great XX.XX release cycle!" post on Discourse, outlining the plans for this release. Example of 22.05
At least it's in the wiki 😄 | 14:09:18 |
Vladimír Čunát | I added one simple cross-link from Discourse; I'm not sure this is worth creating a new thread in there, but certainly you can add one 🤷 | 15:19:34 |
Vladimír Čunát | Maybe do go for more visibility (again) around some significant milestone in there. | 15:20:59 |
Vladimír Čunát | * Maybe do go for more visibility (again) around some significant milestone in from the schedule. | 15:21:15 |
hexa | breaking changes freeze is next up | 15:35:38 |
hexa | zhf would be worth poking everyone about | 15:35:45 |

Restrict all breaking changes with the exception of desktop environments
I don't expect we really need that exception anymore, after shifting from .3 + .9 to .5 + .11. But either way it's mainly on contributors to behave reasonably.

| underpantsgnome changed their display name from underpantsgnome! to underpantsgnome. | 20:22:45 |
| 3 Nov 2022 |
hexa | given that fridh is still working on a python updates run | 21:21:41 |
hexa | I think ZHF on the 7th sounds too optimistic | 21:22:03 |
Vladimír Čunát | So, you certainly want it included in the release? | 21:31:44 |
Vladimír Čunát | I mean, it often brings breaking changes (I think) and it's November already. | 21:32:15 |
Vladimír Čunát | The schedule doesn't even allow breaking changes at this point already. | 21:33:22 |
Vladimír Čunát | * The schedule doesn't even allow breaking changes today already. | 21:33:31 |
hexa | not sure what FRidh is aiming for here tbh | 21:52:58 |
hexa | because it looks like minor updates, but if it wasn't meant for this cycle he could do major ones as well | 21:53:19 |

hexa | to recap: I'm not 100% sure what to do 🙂 | 11:19:49 |
Janne Heß | In reply to @hexa:lossy.network to recap: I'm not 100% sure what to do 🙂 Ask him to PR against master instead? If you say "minor updates" I expect no mass rebuilds | 12:27:56 |
hexa | still a bulk update consisting of a larger number of minor updates | 12:29:18 |
hexa | https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/198024 | 12:29:36 |
Janne Heß | So it's either "please do it against master" or "please don't do it until branch-off" or "please do it ASAP and we will start ZHF later", or am I missing something? | 12:30:06 |
hexa | yeah, I'm inclined to go with option 3 | 12:30:38 |
Janne Heß | I mean we can also merge this into ZHF but that's ugly imo | 12:30:47 |
Sandro 🐧 | In reply to @janne.hess:helsinki-systems.de Ask him to PR against master instead? If you say "minor updates" I expect no mass rebuilds a minor update deep down the dependency chain still causes a mass rebuild | 12:30:57 |
Janne Heß | In reply to @hexa:lossy.network yeah, I'm inclined to go with option 3 I think it would make sense to ask on an ETA. Pusing ZHF a couple of days is okay imo but it shouldn't go on too long | 12:52:52 |
hexa | agreed | 12:53:07 |
hexa | would probably help if someone chimed in 😄 | 12:53:14 |
