Lorenz | Is there any information when something goes in the NixOS manual, wiki or a Nix.dev guide? I don't really understand the difference between them. | 20:37:14 |

Lorenz | No, I haven't, thanks for sharing. So the main difference is that the manual is edited by maintainers, wiki by the community and nix.dev by the documentation team? Why are things like Grocy in the NixOS manual and not the wiki? https://nixos.org/manual/nixos/stable/#module-services-grocy | 17:44:37 |
FliegendeWurst (@GPN23) | The module doc mentions some important stuff for using the module (database location, extending the builtin-in configuration) | 18:15:59 |
FliegendeWurst (@GPN23) | Since that may change when the module definition is updated, it makes sense to keep it in nixpkgs | 18:16:50 |
fricklerhandwerk | If you ask me (which you didn’t, but still :P), any information about modules should just live in the source and be published in the manual as the source changes. The problem is we’re lacking a bit of infrastructure and a lot of culture for that. And many contributors (rightfully) find it easier to edit the wiki with whatever is on their mind instead of going though code review. The NGI team is currently experimenting with the infrastructure aspect on https://ngi.nixos.org and we’re iterating on making the contribution process more convenient. But up-to-date and correct documentation has the cost of rigor, that won’t go away… | 19:58:59 |
