fricklerhandwerk | In reply to @infinisil:matrix.org I honestly don't think the wiki is going to "save" documentation. It's just going to be another resource with potentially duplicate and outdated information, not much changed from previous wiki attempts It can work if Someone(tm) takes the time to curate it. As I argued on the GitHub issue, we do have huge gaps in terms of user guides for NixOS, and this is where the Wiki would be actually useful - as long as it's limited to that. | 11:05:51 |

henrik-ch what do you think? I probably will at most listen in on Thursday, but maybe we should just merge that one.

It seems all documentation jobs from the last 4 hrs kept failing in nixpks. Who could take a look at cachix?
https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/actions/workflows/manual-nixpkgs.yml
Binary cache nixpkgs-ci doesn't exist or it's private and you need a token: Start by visiting https://app.cachix.org and create a personal/cache auth token.
To configure the token:
a) Via environment variable:
$ export CACHIX_AUTH_TOKEN=<token...>
b) Via configuration file:
$ cachix authtoken <token...>::error::Action failed with error: Error: The process '/home/runner/.nix-profile/bin/cachix' failed with exit code 1

infinisil | Johannes Kirschbauer @hsjobeki Oh that's odd, no idea about that. Can you open an issue and ping the original authors of the workflow? | 09:24:43 |
@johannes.kirschbauer:scs.ems.host | No codeowners found. I'll notify the workflow admins mic92 and zowoq | 09:32:17 |
@johannes.kirschbauer:scs.ems.host | Problem found. jonas deleted the cache ^^.
He'll recreate it now 😃 | 09:38:42 |
infinisil | Docs team meeting now, anybody joining? https://jitsi.lassul.us/nix-documentation | 14:04:18 |
@johannes.kirschbauer:scs.ems.host | Sorry cannot make it. | 14:08:37 |
@johannes.kirschbauer:scs.ems.host | But if anyone could review the other nixdoc pr i opened recently | 14:09:02 |
@johannes.kirschbauer:scs.ems.host | Ah just saw infinisil already requested changes | 14:09:43 |
infinisil | danielsidhion: If you want I can give you an email invite for the doc team meetings, you can PM me an email for that | 15:30:36 |
@pennae:matrix.eno.space | infinisil while you're at it, can you remove us from the invite list? | 15:36:04 |
infinisil | pennae: Yeah, though I'm not sure which email is yours, I can't find a pennae one | 15:37:24 |
infinisil | I tried out something new with the google calendar event: I turned off the ability to see who's invited. This was rarely necessary and I believe it's what might be causing the emails getting sent every time a new person is invited | 15:52:39 |
infinisil | danielsidhion: I just removed somebody inactive from the invites, did you get an update email for that? | 15:54:59 |
infinisil | ^^ Or anybody else that has been getting update emails before | 15:55:24 |
infinisil | wamirez: I think you might have gotten update emails in the past, could you check? ^ | 16:05:25 |
infinisil | * wamirez: I think you might have gotten update emails in the past, could you check that you don't anymore? ^ | 16:05:40 |
danielsidhion | In reply to @infinisil:matrix.org danielsidhion: I just removed somebody inactive from the invites, did you get an update email for that? Didn't get any update emails | 16:13:33 |
infinisil | Nice, I think this might work then | 16:37:43 |

Robert Hensing (roberth) | quick thought: maybe reconsider calling everything a manual? Although it seems to be possible to call reference material "manual", the word often refers to more guide-like material | 09:33:27 |
danielsidhion | I think the term "manual" is orthogonal to the purpose of the material. Both nix and nixpkgs manuals are actually named "reference manual" to explain their purpose (to be a reference). Personally I think the word "guide" is way more popular to refer to guide-like material (e.g. "user guide"). | 10:55:57 |
danielsidhion | Sometimes people do use the term "manual" in the form "user manual" to refer to guide-like material, though | 10:56:35 |
danielsidhion | Do you have a suggestion that would make things clearer? | 10:56:58 |
danielsidhion | As for the nixos manual - I'd agree with renaming it to nixos user guide or nixos user manual or something like that | 10:59:02 |
