@connorbaker:matrix.orgconnor (burnt/out) (UTC-8)ugh 🫩17:17:35
@indoor_squirrel:matrix.orgindoor_squirrel@ericson is in New York, right? Would someone here volunteer to just stand outside of his flat until he merges?.... You know, because of the implication?21:12:33
@indoor_squirrel:matrix.orgindoor_squirrelWe may be able to support this effort through sponsor funding, I guess, considering the application of the funds (betterment of nixpkgs).21:13:13
@apyh:matrix.orgapyhyeah lemme send a coworker to go hover ominously 21:13:15
@indoor_squirrel:matrix.orgindoor_squirrelEr, not even ominously, necessarily. I think consistency is much more important, here 21:13:44
@indoor_squirrel:matrix.orgindoor_squirrel* Er, not even ominously, necessarily. I think consistency is much more important, here.21:13:50
@indoor_squirrel:matrix.orgindoor_squirrelJust trying to be open-minded about strategy. Not trying to cause problems. I think there isn't prior art to indicate this is a bad idea for OSS, necessarily. But, if anyone has evidence to the contrary then I'm happy to find another path forward.21:14:59

@indoor_squirrel:matrix.orgindoor_squirrelI guess Emma doesn't want to step up.01:33:49
@connorbaker:matrix.orgconnor (burnt/out) (UTC-8) https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/459416 is basically ready for review 03:24:59
@connorbaker:matrix.orgconnor (burnt/out) (UTC-8)I’ll have a bump for TensorRT up soon, just testing it on CUDA-legacy03:25:59
@connorbaker:matrix.orgconnor (burnt/out) (UTC-8)okay it's not happening tonight, didn't get the chance to write up the PR07:46:27
@aliarokapis:matrix.orgAlexandros LiarokapisI just now saw the nvidia announcement about third party distribution platforms20:13:11
@aliarokapis:matrix.orgAlexandros LiarokapisIs flox’s binary cache blessed or are there plans to integrate the binaries to hydra somehow ?20:13:57
@glepage:matrix.orgGaétan Lepage Which Hydra are you thinking about? NixOS's official hydra.nixos.org? 20:16:37
@aliarokapis:matrix.orgAlexandros LiarokapisYea pretty much20:16:57
@glepage:matrix.orgGaétan Lepage Then, no. NVIDIA libraries's license do not allow them to be redistributed by anyone, including NixOS's binary cache.
Flox made an exceptional agreement with NVIDIA directly.
20:18:36
@aliarokapis:matrix.orgAlexandros LiarokapisOh okay interesting20:19:03

@aliarokapis:matrix.orgAlexandros LiarokapisThere is also the nix community cache00:24:17
@aliarokapis:matrix.orgAlexandros LiarokapisDoes that have an actual allowance to redistribute or is it in a weird grey legal zone or similar00:24:43
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (UTC+1)grey zone00:35:22
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (UTC+1)the flox cache is weird, because it doesn't align with nixos channel bumps00:35:37
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (UTC+1)and doesn't provide builds for stable nixos00:35:57
@sporeray:matrix.orgRobbie BuxtonYeah it’s bit vibe based and weird but it’s a step in the right direction. Nvidia is notoriously difficult to deal with so the fact we even have this is pretty good lol00:37:08
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (UTC+1)the grey area nix-community cache was working prety well though 😄 00:38:51
@sporeray:matrix.orgRobbie BuxtonRight but there is no reason we can’t have both!00:39:35
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (UTC+1)* the grey area nix-community cache was working pretty well though 😄 01:04:18
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (UTC+1)nix-community will drop the remaining cuda jobset at the end of the 25.05 support cycle01:04:42
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (UTC+1)so we don't01:04:45
