@infinidoge:matrix.org | At the moment no, since I don't know that many people around here currently. Ideally a mentor will fall out of the sky, however given that that is unlikely, I am/will be going through the existing potential-mentors and seeing if anyone has worked on similar stuff and would be a good fit to ask. | 09:31:17 |
@infinidoge:matrix.org | That said, is there a list of possible mentors (outside of the potential mentors on the ideas list), or is anyone with sufficient experience who fits the hard requirements allowed, given that they submit a PR to apply? | 09:33:16 |
Janik (they/them) | In reply to @infinidoge:matrix.org That said, is there a list of possible mentors (outside of the potential mentors on the ideas list), or is anyone with sufficient experience who fits the hard requirements allowed, given that they submit a PR to apply? yes anyone can apply as a mentor. | 09:36:49 |

I would suggest you go and ask alyssa ross (qyliss), she is the only person I know who does a lot of nix related virtualization work but I don't know if she would be interested in mentoring for GSoC. | 09:37:53 |
Janik (they/them) | (so I don't know if she is interested in xen, I know she works a lot on cloud-hypervisor things for spectrum os) | 09:38:23 |

@cldrpr:matrix.org | John Ericson: my proposal has been submitted via the GSoC portal. Please review and let me if there are any suggestions for improvement. I'm also happy to share with you directly if you'd prefer. | 16:39:32 |
@kohbaby:matrix.org | Janik (they/them): Also submitted my proposal. Review and feedback would be appreciated. Cheers. | 22:24:30 |

@infinidoge:matrix.org | I've gone ahead and put my full proposal out on GitHub: https://github.com/Infinidoge/xennix/blob/master/proposal.md
If anyone has any feedback, please let me know. | 02:34:05 |
@infinidoge:matrix.org | Do mentors need to be well versed with Nix/NixOS? (Might be able to ask a professor at my university) | 17:17:16 |
Janik (they/them) | In reply to @kohbaby:matrix.org Janik (they/them): Also submitted my proposal. Review and feedback would be appreciated. Cheers. I'll try to give you some feedback, but I'm very strapped on time over the weekend :/ | 23:39:33 |
Janik (they/them) | In reply to @infinidoge:matrix.org Do mentors need to be well versed with Nix/NixOS? (Might be able to ask a professor at my university) Yes, and they should at least be somewhat known in the community to make sure one can entrust them with mentoring. | 23:40:23 |

@kohbaby:matrix.org | In reply to @janik0:matrix.org I'll try to give you some feedback, but I'm very strapped on time over the weekend :/ No worries. Take your time. And if you don't get to it all good. | 23:41:45 |
Janik (they/them) | As said earlier, we will at most get three slots to mentor, so we will sadly have to decline most proposals even if they are (very) good :/ | 23:43:57 |

@stablejoy:matrix.org | These kinds of projects are great. Like trying out gelatos in a store. For me personally they really inspired me to deep dive into like nix internals. Before I thought about but never looked into cpp and how nix is built and such. So no matter the selection outcome I am really happy with things I learned during this period. | 21:00:51 |
Diogo Correia | I've submitted my application to the Library Networking Functions via the GSoC portal, I'd appreciate some feedback (if it's not too late) :)
Thank you and have a nice weekend! | 21:20:30 |
tomberek | There is a lot of interest in the networking library. I'd like to encourage people to apply for some of the other project ideas as well. | 22:35:42 |

@k3ys:matrix.org | I have submitted a proposal for the devenv improvements project, would love to have a review | 00:02:09 |

I'm still waiting to send mine on dynamic derivations. At first I was intimidated, but recently started to look into how build systems generally work. Build systems a la carte is also such a great paper and then dynamic derivations seems to be about graphs of graphs which is pretty cool. | 05:59:52 |
agge3 | I've submitted a proposal for Nix Internals: Use std::filesystem::path for Path . Any feedback (if you have time!!) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the opportunity! John Ericson: | 19:17:37 |
